Boise vs Everyone

Postby donovan » Mon Oct 06, 2014 11:58 am

Change of coach, change of players, change of times; it's always difficult to determine why teams go up and go down. Boise is not the team of past years. I am not sure why they have shifted from their quick spread formations offense to a slower "pistol" offense. It must be personnel because Harsin was the offensive coach during the glory years. Maybe recruiting is everything and recruiting is a crap shoot and for minor teams it is picking the best of the picked over. In the past Boise got great recruits from the Northwest. They were good players that were in schools not heavily recruited. (Big boys have favorite High Schools.) A lot of bigger, faster and stronger kids. Now they seem to be running all over the country trying to get the "cream." Not sure that makes sense. Sometimes you need to be happy being who you are, nothing wrong with that. The "power" five need to do their thing. The rest of us need to just enjoy who and what we are.

Boise is far from out of it. I think Harsin will be fine. Their defense can be tenacious, but it can be inconsistent. The offense, this year is down to two players, Ajayi and Hedrick. In the past after the first two plays you could not keep up with who was playing. The changed players like 45 rpm records in the 50's.

The Mountain West is up for grabs. Boise is still in the hunt, but they are going to have to play more consistent than they have in the past.

The game against Brigham Young will be a test. With the Y's injuries and it being played at Boise, they need to win, even though it is non-conference.

You can only reload as long as the personel holds out then you have to retool. I say they switched offenses soley based on personel. That is the mark of a good coach, though. One that takes what he has and uses them in the best way they can be used.

Football evolves...and so do coaches...and offenses,

I watched Bowden run many different offenses at FSU.

From single wing, to Pro set, to Power I, to, in 1992, one of the first no huddle, hurry up, shotgun spread offenses so current, to pistol, back to pro set with a lot of shotgun.

Fans harp about ?offensive identity"....but many current offenses are multiple...take what the defense will allow and play to the personnel strengths.

Right, though under Bobby B there were years involved in the evolution. I would like to think that had Woody coached into the late eighties he would have discovered the forward pass.

As I sit and ponder the Kansas City Royals and the entertainment they have provided, I look at the Pacific Ocean and think, that is real entertainment.

There were two friends talking, one was learned in the sciences, the other, not so much. The latter asked his friends, "Can you explain to me infinity?"
The reply was, "Do you have the time for me to do so?"
The friend answered, "Yes, I do."
"Then you don't get it."

Certainly players and coaches evolve. Doing the best with the talent you have, is a hallmark of a good coach. Changes must be made. Somehow I just like being fooled, being surprised. I don't want to know how the magician does the trick, I want to be amazed.

The oceans seemingly never changes. I am amazed.

I am with you on the magic tricks. I used to want to know how they were done. It answer was never as good as the trick itself.

The ocean, though, changes with every moon.
