I'm surprised at the vitriolic attitude toward Notre Dame. I get religious prejudice, first hand. What I don't get is why the wasted energy. Teams are free to not schedule them. That would should integrity if that is how the fans feel.

As for the call, impossible to second guess sitting at home. I thought it was a no call. Tell me when it has been called earlier in any game this year and see if it called again..

I don't have anything against Catholics. I don't have anything against Boston College. I have lots of Catholic friends and my brother in law is Catholic. All my dislike is to that particular school and has nothing what so ever to do with religion. My family consists of Baptists, Methodists, Mormons, Catholics, and probably some others I don't know about. I don't have a rub against anyones religious beliefs.

My dislike of Notre Dame has more to do with regional prejudice than religious prejudice.

My comments were ill thought and not at all what I intended. I apologize.

No problem. My dislike of Notre Dame is juvenile at best. It goes back to Notre Dame getting Ohio boys I wanted at Ohio State and the arrogance of some local ND fans on their perception of their team vs. the rest of college football. It is something that isn't really even relevant anymore, but I hold grudges. You would have to have been a midwest resident during the 60's, 70's and to a lesser degree 80's to know how it was when the were winning. There are arrogant fans in every fan base, but they had a load of them during that time. They were also legitimately good then, but that didn't matter. Cane and Eric probably have similar experiences with ND fans and know what I am talking about.

It is true that if CFB didn't want ND to be independent they don't have to schedule them and that would end it. The Money from the Notre Dame Broadcasting Company is just hard to turn down. Also, whether justified or not, beating ND comes with a certain prestige which is also hard for teams to turn down. Woody Hayes would never schedule Notre Dame, because he didn't want them to get a bigger foot hold in Ohio than they had already. Ohio has a pretty good size Catholic population and Ohio State losing to Notre Dame would have cost Hayes players. Also it would have forced them to choose teams when most now are both Buckeye and ND fans.

I also watched the game with my brother in law who is a huge ND fan and it is fun to rub in the loss in his presence. He will have his turn again some day so I have to make the best of it while I can.

As for the call - I don't recall ever seeing it called in that particular situation in the past. I know before the flag was noticed, I was taking a serious amount of crap from my brother in law and the flag put the shoe on the other foot, of which I took full advantage.

Anyway, I don't want anyone to think that my dislike of ND comes from any thing other than a juvenile jealousy of their past. It is much the same as our rivalry with Michigan only Notre Dame and Ohio State don't have much of a past with each other.

I don't have a problem with people of faith at all. I am one of them, not Catholic, but our basic belief systems are the same.

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

I have been holding my tongue since this thread was first posted.
