Week 12 Ruminations

Postby donovan » Sun Nov 16, 2014 12:43 pm

Week 12

Boise State v. San Diego – Weather was in 5 degrees, snow had been removed to reveal the blue turf that has no TV appeal and ugly Bronco uniforms that matched their first half play. Down 20-0 they came back to win the game 38-29. San Diego State coach Rocky Long’s comments that the Broncos’ program didn’t have the same mystique as several years ago were also echoed after the loss by saying. “I’m sorry we’re not going to play them the next couple of years, I love playing them. They supposedly have this mystique. They don’t have a mystique. But they won. Congratulations to them. They won.”
Derogatory comments by coaches about other teams always come back to bite them and reveals more about their immaturity than they must imagine.

FSU v. Miami - Reminded me watch late night movies and someone saying, “Haven’t we seen this 10 times before.” After all is said, I believe, FSU is in superb physical condition. This is not just adrenaline, this is having the stamina to be mentally and physically in the game for the entire 60 minutes.

Ohio State v. Minnesota- That early loss to Virginia Tech, who has gone roly poly downhill is forgotten. Makes me think Urban Meyer and his staff are good at what they do. Not a lot of national hype, just chalking up the wins and I think they get in the final four.

Florida v. South Carolina – Ugh…This may be the last peg in Muschamps coffin. Florida worked hard to lose this one

Oregon State v. Arizona State – Late West Coast games get no attention. This was a big win for OSU. It threw the PAC 12 South in a tizzy, UCLA controls their own show. OSU adjusted and made the comeback. Mannion is a good QB. Good someone I cheer for wins.

Oregon v. No one – They may be the big winner this week.

Clemson v. Georgia Tech – This was a downhome thrashing. The loss of Watson hurt and may continue to do so; Clemson looked like a one horse show. Tech was all over them like Seniors at the Golden Corral.

Arkansas v. LSU – Way to go Doss. Was not a great game, if you are not an ardent razorback fan, but Arkansas stayed focused. This keeps them in bowl contention, that is good.

Notre Dame v. Northwestern – No team that loses brings a much joy to many as ND.

Alabama v. Mississippi State – Always like it when a win vindicates my predictions. Alabama will be the SEC representative in the four. Coaches win games.

TCU v Kansas – A game where a win is almost worse than a loss. No crying here. TCU one of my least favorite teams.

Georgia v. Auburn – Who is this guy Chubb? Great job Derek. Auburn is going down in flames like a late night campfire in a rainy forest. Georgia is one of those teams the selection committees say, “Hmm, what are we going to do with Georgia?”

I like Rashad Greene's comment after the Miami-FSU game..."Pressure breaks pipes, and makes diamonds."

And Cam Erving's comment re Miami fans banging and punching the FSU team bus on the way in... "They weren't punching the bus. They just wanted to know what a Champ felt like."

Your timely and accurate prediction about Muschamp has come to pass.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Baylor, based on resume is overrated. SMU, NW State, Buffalo, Iowa St and this year's Texas in a row to start the season...is almost down there with Marshall. Two solid victories in 2014; close at home against TCU and at Oklahoma (not easy to win there, so that one I'll cut them slack for despite a down year for the Sooners.)

This week was strangely entertaining:

1. Northwestern over Notre Dame? Wow. I saw the last quarter and OT with my own eyes. A fumble call that should have gone Notre Dame's way at home, didn't. The ball carrier's knee was down. Nice to see the visiting team get an unlikely break in South Bend. Serves ND right for a couple of years ago against Stanford. For the Fighting Irish, that is their Appalachian State over Michigan moment.

2. Arizona's finish over Washington: The Wildcats sure make it interesting. There would've been a touchdown near the end had the receiver's foot been two inches in bounds. The Pac 12 is a monster this year, likely the deepest conference and exciting to watch.

3. Arkansas' "smash-mouth offense" is improving by the week. LSU was beaten down from a few world-beaters B2B and they are still a bit young. It doesn't matter what week they play this game (has been traditionally Thanksgiving weekend). With the Golden Boot matchup, it almost never goes how any expert would think.

This year as well, there was a very questionable pass interference call that went against Stanford, putting the Irish in scoring position --- which ultimately won them the game.

I think ND's Appalachian State moment, was a couple of years ago, when Tulsa came in to South Bend for their first ever meeting with the Irish --- was supposed to be an ND blow out, but the Golden Hurricanes walked out of Notre Dame Stadium with the victory.

Ah, such a fond memory.

Yes, very ...

I just came back inside after shoveling the driveway & front walk.

Said today's high is supposed to be 20 (we'll see)

Right now, the windchill is keeping the natural temp down, currently @ 5 degrees.
Heard Zero for tonight.

We've got flurries (minor snow fall), though, lake effect from Lake Michigan is on its way, sometime after 5 p.m. (usually means between 6 inches and a foot on top of what we already got).

Monday, the forecast for Saturday was 51 degrees --- Yesterday, that forecast dropped to 44, and what looks like freezing rain.

I would not want to be in the stands to watch that game.

It's 24 in Boston. It is crazy that it is only 3 degrees warmer in Florida

It was 21 degrees Monday night in Tallahassee and the forecast is for temps above 70 on Saturday for the Boston College game...crazy swing.

Speaking of all of this. In the old days....they only had wooden bleachers....I will take them hands down over aluminum where it is like sitting on an ice chiller when it is cold.
