Week 13 Chronicling
Week 13 Chronicling
Boise St. v. Wyoming – The broadcasters were Beth Mowins and Joey Galloway. This was the Boise State of old, unfortunately the opponent was Wyoming. In freezing temperatures, I think the 342 people in the stands were entertained. In this blowout, the fourth quarter featured players that back up the back ups. The last field goal, which was made, was the third string kicker. The injury list for Wyoming looked like the published team roster. But when you have a dog in the fight, I liked watching the game. I will note when the game starts at 8:15 Mountain Time, I do not think much of the East Coast even sees the kick off, much less the first advertisement; hence, Beth Mowins and Joey Galloway. My sidekicks comment, “Why doesn’t she comb her hair if she is on National TV?”
FSU v Boston College - I watched the game, because I was interested and it was early by Pacific Standard Time, which is an unknown quantity to TV listings. Save the patented comeback in the waning moments, it was lack luster. Rashad Greene is incredible; probably not enough credit is given to him on a national level. FSU’s defense was okay, but okay is not what was expected. The offense is as previously described. FSU won, and that is what is required, so without a lot of subjective babble, they maintain a top four spot. What is amazing is Coach Fisher. He needs to go to a basic communications, public relation class. When asked about Winston shoving the official, he said it was not “malicious.” That seems to be FSU’s standard of conduct. If not malicious, it is okay. I don’t believe that, but I think Fisher needs to be careful in his speech. If it was malicious then, Winston should have been ejected and suspended. If it was intentional, ejected. At minimum there was a flag that should have been thrown. FSU is looking for some kind of Providential pass on rule violation. I said I trust Mr. Billybud’s evaluation on the other issues, but this seems to be an institutional pattern. What was it Harry Truman said?
Ohio State v Indiana – OSU wins in spite of themselves. But they won and much like FSU, not sure what it proved.
Minnesota v Nebraska - Nebraska finds more ways to lose than a gambler in a New Jersey casino.
Oregon v. Colorado – They did what everyone suspected they would do. The won decisively and at the end of the game reined it in. This keeps in in the quattuorvirate.
Virginia Tech v. Wake Forest – 0-0 at the end of regulation 6-3 Wake after 2OT. The regulation ending was a fit commentary on this game.
UCLA v USC - Hundley is a smooth operator. The Bruins controlled the game for whistle to whistle. An Oregon UCLA championship game may be the game of the year, bar none. We’ll see.
Arkansas v. Ole Miss – This was the Arkansas we have heard about for years, but never seen. They didn’t expose Ole Miss, they just took them to school. Now Arkansas just needs to not fall back into their euphoric thinking of greatness and just do this week by week. Mostly, Doss deserves a little happiness in his life when it come to football and on that note, it is sufficient.
BYU v Savannah St. - 64-0 Okay, expected. What is more interesting is Savannah State 0-12 has for several years used the football team to make money. They get between 700k to 1 million to travel and get thrashed. They like the fill in games because it makes them money. Seems to me with all the brouhaha about students being used to line the coffers of schools, this is the epitome of that. I wished BYU had a little more integrity in their program to not participate in this.
Louisville v. Notre Dame – I think this was the classic that the best team on that Saturday won. I think ND is a good team. Golson is proven. But yesterday, Louisville played as they have played all year and won. Good win, they deserve the accolades. Great away victory for them.
Oregon State v. Washington – I hope Riley can survive all of this. I like him, but there has to be something above mediocre seasons. Mannion is a very good quarterback. Next week at the civil war, if Oregon State can beat Oregon, then all is well. Like so many rivalries, the game stands on its own.

Re: Week 13 Chronicling
Ohio State was terrible yesterday. Four turnovers in the first half. Three interceptions by Barrett in the first two quarters. The defense let Coleman loose twice. No shame in Coleman getting his yards, he is a 1st-2nd round draft choice. Diamont however shouldn't have had near the success he had up the middle. The Ohio State defense has problems with a straight ahead running attack and screen passes. I don't mind an aggressive oline, but adjustments need to be made when your defense is running past the play. We should beat Michigan this week. It will be a closer game than is should be. Then we play Wisconsin in the championship game and Gordon will likely run wide open if the Buckeyes can't figure out a way to contain him and make Stave beat them. Time for some good old fashioned gap defense. Something the Buckeye defensive coaches seem to have a problem with playing.

No other athlete in the country would receive this over arching negative attention for something that, during the game, was a non issue.
The officials didn't think it was a significant issue...the announcers didn't...but any negative mention of Winston gets viewers and clicks...
The ref stepped between the QB and the Center while the QB was rapidly moving to center. It was what it was...
It was no issue...except for those who need it to be so for clicks....and the public, like Donovan, so eager to bite on it.

I have not heard anything about it today, except here. I'm not sure it is an issue one way or another.

I really haven't heard about this story having any legs. I don't know where you think the hate is coming from. It was in any paper I have read from Sunday to now. I've heard nothing from talk radio. Nothing good or bad.

Spence..it is all over...we have the NY Times..ESPN had spreads for two days...every message board from West Virginia on has spewing.
Donovan...it isn't "one person"...but put 100,000 folks together, like you, who know what the media tells you...and it creates knee jerk haters. The media loves it..nobody creates more views than Jameis Winston...he is the nation's hottest commodity among men aged 18-40.

The ACC and officials didn't think it was much...but FSU is the black hat villain in this WWE extravaganza...anything to build up the views.
Just watch...if FSU does not lose...the Committee will try to put Winston up against Mariota in a play off...watch Michael defeat Lucifer in the match of good against evil !!

Re: Week 13 Chronicling
I would expect a little talk about it on Sunday. A blurb here and there. I don't watch ESPN very often so I can't speak about them. Winston has had his share of attention, but that goes with the territory. I don't see the loathing you see. Ohio State has been getting drilled by the media for a long time. I always looked at it as part of winning. Maybe Bobby Bowden was just so good at deflecting it during FSU's last run you didn't see it that often.!
There is alway fans who don't like teams on top. I don't see that on this site. I see it in small doses nationally with Florida State, but nothing I haven't seen with Alabama, USC, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, and even Notre Dame. (And they aren't even winning with any regularity.

For the record - I don't think it was a big deal either from what I saw.

guns? More like "gums".
We are two geriatric gentlemen with a long standing back and forth relationship....it keeps me mentally sharp and Donovan perpetually cantankerous.
