Kosta Karageorge

Postby Spence » Sun Nov 30, 2014 8:51 pm

They found Kostas Karageorge. He apparently took his own life. They are saying it had to do with cucussions he had while wrestling (he was a high school and college wrestler) I guess he had large periods of confusion and it was causing problems in his life. So much, it seems, he could not live with it.

I feel so bad for his family. They lost a son. Football seems so unimportant at times like these. I can't imagine losing a child. Even one that was grown. Such a terrible senseless tragedy. RIP Kostas.

Senseless, all athletes whether walk-ons or scholarship should have all medical and psychological help available so that situations like this don't happen. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

Ohio State has all of that. The student or his family have to initiate the care. I guess felt that help wasn't an option.

When deep depression sets in, the individual may be incapable of seeking help. If someone you know talks about, ever so casual, take it serious.

That is a really sad story. I'm no medical professional, but it sounds like it could be another case of CTE, although I don't know if that develops in someone as young as he was.

Once you heard the story, you feared the worst. I feel really bad for his family.

I think that is what they believe. I guess he had several concussions at a young age. He only played one game for Ohio State. I don't know that he had any recently, but something was wrong or he wouldn't have felt like this was his only option.

When they do the autopsy they will be able to tell. CTE can't be diagnosed except posthumously. There are many reasons why people contemplate suicide. Suicide is epidemic in young people. There are other signs that can be identified for suicidal contemplation. We, as well we should, have zero tolerance when young people of all ages threaten harm to others. We need to have the same tolerance when we hear about self harm. We are a long way from treating symptoms, but there is much that can be done. Sad story. Hopefully, and I believe they will, OSU will invest in education and programs to help bring awareness to these issues.

Yes, I am sure lots of awareness classes and education will follow. It is just a shame for his family that it came to this for him. He should be just starting his life.

Yes. Hard to take. It just hits you harder when it's a kid.

Very sad.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.
