Oregon State to Nebraska

Postby donovan » Fri Dec 05, 2014 11:23 am

Nebraska, in my opinion, made a great hire. Mike Riley incorporates what schools should want in a coach. His philosophy on education character and life in general put everything in balance. And, he can coach. I have been an Oregon State fan for years and even though the record has not been stellar, his fan support has seldom waned. My big observation is Nebraska went from dictator to humanitarian. Good guys can win games.

I think it was a good hire too. Not sure if the Nebraska faithful agree yet. They did pick the anti Bo, which I think was something they absolutely needed. They need someone who can recruit Texas well. That is the key to Nebraska's return.

I think it's possible that Riley might start off with a bang at Nebraska, maybe by next year. I don't think he will be able to sustain it long-term once the dust settles. Maybe he has the personality, but does he have the recruiting and the coaching chops to keep Nebraska where they want to be? Apparently averaging 9 wins per season isn't enough at Nebraska.

I do think people forget that Oregon State hasn't been considered a great football school. Between Dennis Erickson and Mike Riley, they have pretty much changed that perception over the last 15 years or so.
