Surprised all the love Arkansas is getting so early. I don't think polls before the season mean anything. We really don't know much until about half way through a season. But nice to see Razorbacks in the conversation after the fiascos of Petrino and John L Smith.

How many days until next season starts?

We'll get some more way too early preseason movement after National Signing Day - Transfers - Spring Time Injuries.

It is nice to see the recognition Arkansas is getting, seeing as how they turned it around and finished as strongly as they did. Usually these columns ignore that, by generally looking over the full season, and keep the team out of the rankings, labeling them as slow starters -- which in turn can haunt a program for a couple of years.

Maybe, by the way the playoff committee ranked undefeated fsu at 3 had a little something to do with this.

It might be putting heavier pressure on these other pollster outlet to look more objectively at a team, and not just popularize their rankings.

I still have no Love for preseason polls, as I do not agree with setting a prognosis without having anything to analyze (I hold my belief that games should be played first in order to have any data -- one year is not the next IMHO). However, if these things are going to maintain as the status quo, it would be a refreshing step in the right direction to go against the proverbial grain.

"Before you speak, make sure what you have to say improves the silence" Sportscaster should read this daily, but they don't. Football season is over, they should move on to curling or cheerleading, the latter which ESPN exploits. This obsession to rank everybody all the time is a disease. ORD "Obsessive Ranking Disorder"

Signing day is Feb.4th. Football is never over.

I don't really care about rankings until at least July.

Recruiting is a year 'round event ... you are right, the season is never really over.

Basketball, Hockey, Baseball, and Soccer -- these seasons never truly start in my head, because College Football is the only sport that exists as far as I'm concerned.

Well, except for maybe track ... I Love the competitive edge in the overall aspect of a multitude of events compiling a team effort to accomplish victory.

I feel like the line between finishing in the top 10 and finishing unranked this year wasn't very big. Auburn, if they could have managed the clock better against Alabama, could really have put themselves in a position to win that game, and of course the game against Wisconsin went down to OT. That's the difference between being an 8-5 afterthought and a 10-3 top 10 team with a lot of momentum entering next offseason (according to the hype machine). It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Auburn work their way into the playoff next season. USC did just enough to hang on in the rankings, but a couple of games they had could have gone either way and I believe they finished in the 20s. USC will probably get a lot of hype entering next year, but I don't get a "been there, done that" feel from Sarkisian. I don't know if he is the right guy to turn them back into a national power.

Arkansas will have to work on getting a more effective passing game, but the defense improved by leaps and bounds down the stretch and obviously the horses in the running game are there. If they can navigate their schedule, they should find themselves in the mix. I don't think Alabama will be all that great next year. The division is probably going to come down to Auburn and Arkansas, maybe Mississippi State if Prescott can will his team to some extra wins. Ole Miss is returning a ton of offensive talent, but I think regardless that they won't be able to do it. They have never really had that "it" factor since Hugh Freeze got there. The defense has usually been good, but they've had some games where they've gotten smoked and the offense has been completely schizo. I don't think they have a better option at QB this year than what Bo Wallace could have provided. I think the talking heads will be trumping up Bama, Arkansas, and Ole Miss as the main players, but I think they will only be right about one of those (Arkansas).

I like Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Stanford, and Penn State as teams that could break into the top 15 by next year's end. Obviously it's too soon to tell, but Penn State's players on offense are too good not to get any better. Hackenberg regressed in a huge way this past season, but if he can right some mechanics and the offensive line improves enough to the point where he gets comfortable in the pocket again, he could have a resurgence. Oklahoma State ended on a positive note and gets their key players back with Mason Rudolph looking like the guy to build around. Oklahoma has a tendency to surprise when nobody expects too much of them. I thought they were overrated coming into last year, but this year might be the one they live up to expectations. They're likely going to start the year near the very back end of the top 25. And Stanford gets their entire offense back and they are always solid on defense, so I think they could emerge as a North contender against Oregon.

I think the reason Hackenberg regressed was the lack of weapons around him. When they fix that he will get better.

Wait...Where is Oklahoma.

no pre-season poll is complete without them in it. how will their fans be disappointed at the end of the year???

Keep in mind this is coming from a Dawg fan. 8)
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.
