BYU Count or No Count?

Postby donovan » Fri Jan 30, 2015 10:31 am

The ACC has decided games against BYU will count as an out of league Power 5 opponent, a requirement of the league to play at least one of these types of games. From a strategy point this seems to be a no brainer. I doesn't help any your Power 5 conference teams, if you lose. If BYU wins, if only helps BYU if they are undefeated for the entire season. The ACC seemingly thought this through. No one ever accused of the SEC as being too bright, just greedy and vindictive.

I'm not sure I understand the rule in the first place. if a school like New Mexico State wants to come to Athens and play and use the payout for their athletic's program, I don't think the leagues should punish the host with a "cupcake game....doesn't count". My 2 cents. 8)
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

I think you are right. What may be in the best interest of one school may not be the same for another. The NC playoff, aka ESPN Money maker, dictates everything.

I think the ACC wants to beef up the non-conference slate so it reflects the image they want to present. It'll help in the rankings and in the eyes of the committee in the long term.
