I'm starting to work my way onto the "less is more" bandwagon with respect to these bowl games. I'm all for free football, so I won't complain too much. At some point though, being in a bowl game doesn't mean much. It's why you see games with interim coaches replacing those who got fired

I would agree that the bowl schedule has gotten out of control. I don't want to go back to the days of 8 or 10 but it was nice when Jan 1st had at least a third of the games as opposed to 1/8th or so. The way they are spread out, how many ppl can spend 3 weeks around Christmas and New Years watching football nightly? I'd like to see about 10 less games, and a few more played Dec 29th-Jan 1st. While we are at it, the number 1 thing I want is teams to have a .500 record in conf play, or at the very least 1 under. I hate the 4 cupcakes then let me squeeze out 2 conf wins and bam bowl game. I still watch those too tho so I'm not really helping the problem.

The idea we do not go back to how it was is often expressed. I would suggest that is exactly what makes sense. Two conferences have a bowl. The winners of each conference play at that bowl, e.g. Big Ten and Pac, I lost count, play in the Rose Bowl. If the runners up want a bowl...go for it. What is wrong with having a prize declared BEFORE the game is played rather than play the games and then decide what the prize is. In the old days, we called it "smoke filled rooms.." Today what kind of smoke may have changed.

I'm beginning to wonder if Don Corleone is not involved in these smoke filled rooms.

I can't stop watching that movie on airplanes.

Boise is nice Donovan, the only problem is that there is a girls soccer tournament here this week, and it's CROWDED.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

As I have said, Idaho is a state without a city. Doesn't take many for everything to fill up. But great place to raise kids....and grandkids.

Ahhh...football is approaching again.

Time for me to start thinking about the pigskin. I needed a vacation after last season.

Had a minor surgery in January and three months of light duty (no lifting more than three pounds, no Harley). Yesterday was my first longish day on the bike. We rumbled down the Nantahala gorge following the river and rambled the byways. A beautiful blue sky mountain day here...between the milky way and the sourwood tree,

I have been wrapped up in the Women's World Cup of late.

FSU will be a complete mystery to me this year...after sending a NCAA record 29 kids to the NFL the last three years, most of us Nole fans think this season is a rebuild year.

I see somewhere around 9 or 10 games won and a bowl win (the team will be better than their record at year's end).

I delight from hearing all is well. Having spent a good portion of the last months staring at the Pacific Ocean from a seven iron distance, I am fully aware of my insignificance in the grand scheme, and much better for it. I have watched a lot of baseball, ate a lot of Dungeness Crab, razor clams and King Salmon. I am not much better for it.

Ohio State should be good this year. Better than last because Miller is probably going to be the QB and the oline will have had a full year under them. Of course it won't work out that way, because you alway seem to do better when the expectations are lower. Last year the Buckeyes finished the regular season down two QB's and making the playoffs by the skin of our teeth. Most thought Ohio State shouldn't have been there and the reasons were valid. Then the playoffs started and the 3rd string QB made up for his lack of football IQ with toughness and a very hard head. Not many QB's would take on a nose tackle at full speed let alone pancake him in the middle of the field. It was a perfect storm of getting big breaks when we really needed them and taking full advantage of all the opportunities they were given. This year we should win, probably will not win. Should be fun anyway.

I have spent the offseason traveling. I have been to Arizona, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Texas, South Carolina, New York, and Boston since last season. I got the chance to try lots of good and different food and see lots of different sights. (Different really describes lots of the Vegas sites and as usual I always see something I never saw before. Now I'm ready for football season.

I think you're probably right, but this is straight from the Spence School of Precautionary Expectations  . I feel the same way though. Low expectations and you might be surprised, but you won't be disappointed. The higher the expectations, the likelier you get disappointed.

Virginia Tech will be a great test to open in Blacksburg. I think Ohio State's offense might be too powerful, but the Hokies do have a pass rush. Speaking of high expectations, my gut feeling is that Michigan comes into the OSU game at 7-4 against an either 11-0 or 10-1 Buckeyes team and takes care of business to start the Harbaugh era on the right foot. But I might be getting ahead of myself 8) . We're definitely going to lose at Utah to open the season. No doubt. Book it. Take it to the bank. Bet the house.

It could happen. I don't see Harbaugh getting it done this year. He has always been as good as his QB and he needs time to develop a QB.

I do see Michigan competing earlier than expected. Probably by next year, but it is asking a lot of a coach to be able to steal one from us this year. Ohio State probably won't win the championship because of the target on their back this year, but I see them going to AA and doing pretty well this year.

Ehh...I think Michigan has another 2 years before they compete with OSU. And that's assuming that the new coach will make that big a difference, but I think he will.

Ga has a tough schedule and some very good SEC west opponents and have to play Bama and Auburn this year. They have 3 cake games they'll win by 40 points, and 2 that they will win fairly easily (so 5 guaranteed wins)....the others could go either way with our questions at QB, I just don't know yet.

The running and O-Line are as best as they have ever been; probably the best run offense in the country right now.

The defense will be like a wall this year, with just about everybody returning. With the exception of the lack of experience at QB and how all of this works with the new Offensive Coordinator...I would probably pick the Dawgs to be in the playoffs.

The biggest question is how they will shoot themselves in the foot. 8)

Good to hear things are going well billybud!!

Donovan, I'm in Portland this week and working with your Water Bureau.
