Kansas Getting Thumped

Postby Eric » Sat Sep 05, 2015 1:37 pm

The Jackrabbits of South Dakota State are handing it to Kansas and their new coach Dave Beatty. They got up 31-7, but it's 31-14 now with the Jayhawks driving. I liked this game as an upset possibility, but I don't think I would have went with SDSU. SDSU is a good FCS program though. A side note, but I've always wanted to see them join a conference like the MAC. The Dakotas need some exposure 8)

And for the record, I don't get the Beatty hire. If Kansas was looking for an up-tempo approach, I would have seen what Sonny Cumbie was up to. This guy is going to be a great coach wherever he goes. I was amazed that he didn't land at Tulsa, Troy, Buffalo, or Kansas. Each would have been a great stepping stone for a high-flying style IMO. I don't know what these schools were thinking. Maybe he turned them down? :?

When Duke beats you 41-3 (last year) you know that you have a horrible team...Kansas should be even worse this year.

Over the last five years..Kansas has not averaged even three wins a year....a five win season would be a miracle.

Portland State also beat Washington State, somehow. I was thinking this could have been a dangerously close game, but man. Portland State isn't that good (3-9 last year). This is just a brain fart by Wazzu. Probably the death knell for Mike Leach too. I don't think his offense is suited to the Great Northwest. I didn't catch much of the game (and I was watching it with a crappy Internet stream with the sound off), but it looked cold and drizzly out there today. I want to see Leach succeed, but I think the fact that they can't get to a bowl game now with this loss should pretty much be it for him.

Speaking of small schools surprising folks...Bowling Green is pretty much tied with Tenn.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

I'm pleasantly surprised with Bowling Green here. Their offense can work well against teams from a different weight class, but I didn't think their receivers would get open enough or the protection would hold up against the defensive line. Bowling Green wideouts are doing work and the backs have room to run. The other factor of course is Bowling Green's paper-thin defense. They're at least hanging with Jalen Hurd and some of those guys. I'm not sure it'll last past the third quarter though, but I'd like to see this remain a ball game.

It's 3 quarter and Bowling just won't go away.

Tenn fans have to be disappointed....
