Waking up From Hibernation

Postby Eric » Sun Sep 13, 2015 2:27 am

I have a team some people might be sleeping on: California. The Golden Bears seem to be able to at least play competent defense. They have a bevy of skill players to complement junior Jared Goff at QB. I think Sonny Dykes finally has his team constructed the way he wants it. People forget about him sometimes and the success he had at Louisiana Tech during the WAC's final season. The guy's a solid coach and a winner. Cal was completely barren when he got there, but this a team that can make some noise with a couple of breaks. They get Texas next week in what should be an interesting matchup against a good defense.

The big downside for Cal is the draw from the South division. They get to face Utah, USC, UCLA, and Arizona State. This is in addition to Stanford and Oregon. Yikes

I'm not too sure on how good AZ State is . They struggled last night against Cal Poly. I know the triple option can be difficult to defend, but, the FCS schools don't have quite the depth that the Academy programs have. New Mexico will run the same type of offense next week, so we'll see how much better AZ State can be, if at all.

Stanford is pretty decent, but not flawless.
Utah Might be better than the Cardinal.
Oregon is better than them both.

USC & UCLA --- now there is your power base of the Pac this year. I wouldn't want to play either of them. UCLA especially.
