Toledo

Postby Cane from the Bend » Sat Sep 12, 2015 7:57 pm

Went into Littlerock and took away the W.

They performed well the whole game through. When the Rockets got ahold of the lead, they did not let it go, and controlled they pace of the game, even when their offense stopped producing points, the Toledo D did not quit.

Arkansas really made a run at the end there. They never gve up either, and the is something positive to say about that. The Razor Backs were playing for the lead, down to the last second. It just was not to be.

Congratulations to Toledo for a solid win against a tough opponent.

This might be the biggest upset this year. We won't see another one like this. And this is not the first time it's happened to ARK. It happened last year to Louisiana Monroe.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

Resident Hog fan here. I watched the entire game. Ark should have won by 20 or more points: penalties, and drop passes were the story of this game. QB Brandon Allen has a career day passing ball (out did his career day from last week).

Hogs had three possession in the game that were first and goal within the 5 and came away with 3 points. Arkansas missed a FG as well. They left a ton of points on the field. A bad snap over the punters head in the first half gave Toleda a 25 yard field. They had a punt return TD called back on a questionable call. The WR's dropped 4-5 passes in key situations.

Not only did Arkansas lose to a poor opponent they had 4 starters go out with injuries....at key positions.

Stinks when your season is over after week 2. Good luck to everyone else. I have all ready made plans for next week during Ark vs Texas Tech. game. Going to Bryan Adams concert with my wife.

I have said since he was hire that Bielema was not the answer for Arkansas. The longer he is there the more they will realize why. It is a shame because Arkansas fans deserve better. Not that the pressure is off he will do well enough to extend his job another year.

Had to rub my eyes there; for a second I thought you were a Miami fan talking about last night's game ... except, we missed 2 field goals.

Tonight was just one of those days where nothing goes right for the Arkansas faithful. I was going to mention the injuries too, because that's tough, especially when the right tackle went down. I hope he will be okay. The qb is seriously going to need him with their upcoming schedule. Depth is really important, and that is a very key position as you mention.

On that note, I had seeing any player getting hurt out there on the field. No matter what I may think of the team he plays for.

Malik Zaire went out for te season with an ankle injury for Notre Dame. The Irish were able to mount an offense and put crucial points on the board without him, but, they are no where near as explosive with him out.

It's a shame when these kids get hurt like this, and we never get to know how good they, or their teams could be.

My thoughts and wishes for full recovery is with all these players.

The bungled two-point conversion and a missed short field goal could've put Toledo in the coffin. For the most part, they played well on both sides of the ball.

With Dan Enos as OC, Arkansas used a lot of motion and shifting. It seemed to be working for them early. It's not what I would expect from a three yards and a cloud of dust offense that they had last season. But this season, the RB depth isn't there for the ground and pound. You sure miss an extra top-tier RB in Jonathan Williams on a day like today.

In Fayetteville, that's a Hogs win, though by 7-10 points. Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium's fan atmosphere doesn't compare to Razorback Stadium. Doss, you may know, why does U of A still play the occasional game in Little Rock?

Toledo has a decent defensive line, but I'm surprised that they held up against Arkansas' gargantuan offensive lineman. Arkansas didn't have their usual level of success running the ball. 3.3. yards per carry against a MAC team with an NFL-sized offensive line just shouldn't happen.

This is a crazy season so far...Arkansas should have been able to win this one....I'd have a couple of receivers running stadium steps...if the QB hits you in the hands, you must catch it.

That is a loaded question and a very heated topic in Arkansas. Up until very late in the 1990's, Arkansas played 3 home games in Little Rock every year. War Memorial Stadium held more people. Arkansas has been playing games in Little a Rock since 1948. It became tradition. Everyone here knows how hard it is to change something that is perceived to be tradition. When they renewed the contract after the stadium expansion in Fayetteville they drop the number of games in Little Rock to 2 a season. Big central Arkansas donors pushed the issue and threatened to not donate if Arkansas played fewer games in Little Rock. In 2014, Jeff Long renewed the Little a Rock contract with War Memorial stadium but lowered it to just 1 game there a year. Before 2014, Arkansas was only playing 5 games a year on campus in Fayetteville (the Texas A&M game is played in Dallas). Now Ark plays 6 games in Fayetteville. Jeff Long and Beliema would like to drop Little Rick games. I bet that's what happens when the current contract runs out. They have been slowly pulling the bandaide off for years. Arkansas gets to count little Rock games as home games but the NCAA will not allow Ark to host official visits in little rock. It is really a road game based solely on having to travel. The stadium holds about 25,000 fewer people so there is a loss of money as well.

I am all for getting all home games on campus. However, my favorite 2 memories as a Raz fan happened in that stadium. Both miracle on markham games where Ark beat LSU in the closing seconds to send them to the SEC Championship game were awesome. Best atmosphere I have ever been in at a college game.

Ark had 6 possessions in the red Zone (3 of those possessions were 1st and goal from the 5). Those 6 possessions generated 10 points. Toledo did the same as Utep and stacked the box all night (I bet everyone does this to Arkansas). Due to that strategy, Brandon Allen had his first 300 yard passing game vs Utep and his first 400 yard passing game vs Toledo.

Hard to run between the tackles when it is a big pile of 18 big bodies. Arkansas was getting a push but all the holes were clogged. Toledo often had 9 players close to the line to stop the run. Brandon Allen had receivers open all game and racked up over 400 yards passing. Critical mistakes stopped drives: 2 huge holding calls on big receptions were called back, Allen threw an int into the end zone from the 5 yard line at the end of first half, Allen overthrew TE a Hunter Henry on next to last play of game that would have given Ark the lead with 1 second left in game (Henry was open), wR's dropped 4-5,passes (perfect throws), a botched snap over the head of punter gave Toleda a 25 yard field, called back TD on punt return (holding called), and a missed fg in redbone hurt.

I think losing RB Jonathan Williams right before season does not help. Kody Walker was injured in first half last night. So Ark was down to Alex Collins and true freshman Williams in 2nd half of game. Ark also had their best online an Kirkland leave game injured, two of their dlineman leave injured, and their kickoff return man Hawkins leave game on a stretcher.
