Down to the wire, yes, I agree. This will make for a great season. But in the end, which teams will have a major beef with the final four? Could there be some 2 loss teams in there? Could there be a coach that says we only lost in overtime? Or our conference schedule allows teams to beat each other up. Or our out of conference schedule is brutal. Or hey it ain't fair, the big 12 doesn't play a champs game.

The supposedly good teams are playing below on some levels while the not so hot teams are playing with a chip. You combine these two factors, and the results are so mixed up. The preseason polls look like no one knows what's going on. Oregon, BYU, etc. didn't just get beat, it was handily. We always hear that the season has to play out, but this season, it feels like no one knows...

(And certainly not to leave billybud's contention out of this overall equation)

If you're a top-tier PowerFive squad, week after week every team on the schedule should bring their "A-game" to knock you off. IMO, Ohio State (vs Northern Illinois) and Michigan State (vs Central Michigan) both felt challenged into the 4th quarter by mid-tier G5 schools the week before lighter weight games on their schedule. I can deal with close first halves, it's afterward where I weigh the scales versus other ranked teams' games. I gave some thought to putting UCLA #1; back to back wins against Top 25 (at the time) schools, last night's win on the road. I do tend to figure SOS (and how you dominate it) and home/road into my methodology. Ohio State has mostly B1G kittens on their schedule until the last two weeks. The Buckeyes need to dominate this stretch of the schedule. If MSU continues to win including week 7 at Michigan, they have to leapfrog OSU or I will believe the national pollsters are on the take.

Ohio State did better against Western Michigan that Michigan State. Besides they play each other so there doesn't have to be a debate about who will win. We will know. It is way to early in the season to worry about who is where in the polls.

This week if I'm voting I would have Utah as the most impressive team and LSU right behind them.

LSU might run into some issues if they face a stiffer defense. Obviously containing Fournette will be a huge challenge, but is Harris good enough to lead a key drive with his arm? I guess we'll find out. Alabama has had defensive issues for about two seasons now and their QB situation has not really been encouraging. They can obviously beat LSU, but I don't like their odds at this point in time. LSU and Ole Miss will be a great one on November 21st.
