Anyone else watching this game?
First; Wow! What an interception by Alijah Holder (Stanford). Taking that pick all the way to the end zone the way he did. Looked like an all star receiver.
Now UCLA is on the move, with a fantastic run by Perkins. The Bruins first rush of the night, taking the ball from midfield, to the 10.

Re: Stanford vs UCLA
hmm...
Now if UCLA could quit shooting themselves in the foot, they'd have 7 on the board, rather than 3rd & goal from the 21.
Fourth down, field goal good.
Stanford 7
UCLA 3

Re: Stanford vs UCLA
70 yard Touchdown pass from Josh Rosen to a wide open Darren Andrews.
Stanford 14
UCLA 10
This is a game of big plays right now. With 6 minutes still left in the 1rst quarter.

Re: Stanford vs UCLA
What a mess.
The ref calls incomplete on an obvious backwards pass.
UCLA challenges, wins the challenge, but this early why?
It was 2cnd & 14, instead of 2cnd & 10.
UCLA won the challenge so they should have gotten their timeout back. But the refs never announced it that way, and UCLA is showing as having only 1 timeout remaining for the half, rather than 2.
Then, Stanford gets 22 yards on 3rd & 12, which nullified the effect of challenging the backwards pass.
End of the First Quarter.

Re: Stanford vs UCLA
Half Time
Stanford 35
UCLA 17
What a player Christian McCaffrey is. Stanford has themselves a true gamer in this kid. He's got 244 all purpose yards so far, and an entire 2cnd half yet to play.

Re: Stanford vs UCLA
Yawn !
I'm not used to the late hours.....Rosen threw a lot but wasn't much over 50% and had two INT's. Stanford rushed really well on UCLA but the kickoff return was a killer. The Cardinal has put up 40 plus points a game for the last four games. Offense has moved the ball ever since game #2.
Another near 100 combined points game....

Yes, and, I am aware that Stanford won the game by 21, however, they scored 0 points in the 4th quarter, where UCLA closed the gap a little bit, putting up 15.
The Cardinal were up 36 going into the final 15:00 minutes.
I get wanting to play some conservative ball, and melting the clock down. But you can do that better by suffocating your opponent, by executing forward positioning, and making the first downs that will put you into their red zone.
The clock disappears much more quickly when you maintain possession, and put the ball deep onto the other side of the field.
If Stanford had lost control on a huge momentum swing, things could have ended differently.
A good example of that is Arkansas State, last night.
Ark St. out scored South Alabama 29 to 7 in the 4th quarter to win the game 49-31.
Though it was an exciting comeback, it should have never happened. And yet, it has become a common theme in today's game, where one team plays moderate keep away, while the other team turns desperation into momentum, into victory.
I know this is prototypical David Shaw. Though, you can still play keep away, if you are deliberately trying to make the other guys stop you from chewing up the field.

FSU plays the same conservative ball when ahead...and I really cringe every time.
