Possible Hot Seat Coach Replacements

Now, you all know way more than me about the inner workings of this sport. Buyouts, no chance hires, etc. Looking at Burch Jones, LSU's Orgeron, and others. Hot seat currently. So, could Brent Venables take a head coaching gig? I read that Stoops will take over Notre Dame after a year of retirement. Or any others?

If ND keeps winning the way they are, then no change.
Venables has quoted that he likes being an assistant.
Chip Kelly might find a job somewhere, soon.
Tennessee is biding their time with Jones.

Texas A&M, Arizona State, Missouri, Arkansas and LSU all may have openings pending the rest of the season.

Nebraska doesn't usually like waiting for the results they expect, so things might be getting warm in Lincoln.

Steve Addazio at Boston College may have a burning coal in his back pocket, since he's only won 2 of his last 18 Conference games.

If Les Miles were to get another coaching job, it will either be as Head Coach of a Group of Five school, or as an Assistant Coach at a Power Five a couple of years prior to getting a promotion.

The problem with Miles, is that he is so one dimensional, he just forgets the importance of a balanced offense.

Yes, it is nice having a fantastic running potential. But when you focus almost solely on the run game, and you can't field a QB/WR combination threat, then there is no reason for opposing defenses to protect deep. It gives the opposition an advantage --- Stop the run, they don't score.

Miles has a great Defensive Mind. His teams were always formidable because it was hard to gain momentum on a team that can shut you down. The difference is; being able to shut someone down is nice and all, but what happens when they shut you down, too..?

LSU under Miles, his last few years, were constantly in a war for field position. Who can pin the other deep and try getting quick 3 & outs. When that becomes your game plan, you are going to lose a few. And at LSU, a few is too many.

Miles had a good thing going for a while in Baton Rouge. LSU's name is a big draw for recruits. So it was easier to assemble a team that had a bunch of talent. But elsewhere, Miles will have difficulty, because his play style will be less of a challenge for the opposition, unless that school has the same level of recruiting prowess.

Yep, sorry `bout that ... I meant, Charlie Strong, who could get another Power 5 job if the Bulls continue to impress. It would show he is still capable, and that Texas was just the wrong fit for him.

A guy who nobody knows...and who is seriously a B2 (under the radar)...is Dana Dimel...

Offensive Coordinator at Kansas State since 2009.... with Dimel doing offense, Bill Snyder has got a lot of mileage out of average talent squads...Dimel was also Offensive Coordinator for KSU back in the mid 90's when the Wildcats finished top 20 a couple of times.

Yes, and it didn't hurt having Jim Leavitt as the Co-Defensive Coordinator during that time either --- which, actually, is something Oregon is ruing the day of, I'm sure --- seeing as how he is presently Defensive Coordinator for the Ducks.

Leavitt's stint at Colorado certainly changed their on field presence & success. A year or two bringing Oregon on the upswing, someone is going to be inquiring about his services pretty soon, as well.

Also, I wouldn't be shocked if Kyle Whittingham were to get some bigger named schools on his caller ID in the near future. He has been doing with Utah, what Snider has done with Kansas State. Winning at a high level with mostly 3 star recruits. He got the Utes up to rank 6 in the polls while in the Pac 12 just a few years ago. They were 9-4 in 2014, 10-3 in 2015, 9-4 last year, and they are currently 4-0 this season.

Especially because you fired a guy that exceeded realistic expectations. I think you can learn a lot about the mentality of an institution by the way they handle sports.

I'm sure there are some other big program coordinators that have been overlooked on this thread, but after the recent win a guy like Neal Brown has to be moving up the radar. Troy finished in the top 25 last year and he is a young coach. I would expect someone to come calling. I would imagine price will be high, because he could force a bidding war between a couple schools. Also, the navy coach always seems to generate interest. Was surprised he stayed 2 yrs ago, it seemed after the game in Philly their fans also expected him to leave. He stayed then but now that their little streak is done who knows.

Niumatalolo was a logical choice for BYU when Mendenhall left. He opted to stay at Navy. With BYU, not sure how tolerant they will be, but it's not good there, Niumatalolo may be ready for that move if Navy gets antsy. (There is only about 6 eligible candidate for the BYU job the coach must be affiliated with the LDS church and be in good standing.
