Though, I think Moore was a better actor than the scripts he was given.
If he'd have gotten the same quality of writing and directing as Connery, many others would likely feel the same way.
He had the misfortune of taking over the Bond personage, just as the direction decided to shift from what made the character so endearing, into a mainstream market, where American audiences were being given one zany car chase feature after another --- rather than letting the Bond franchise stand on its own merits.
