Postby Mountainman » Sat Sep 28, 2024 9:40 am

Miami versus VaTech……… that’s as good as it gets.

Hopefully Cane will recover in time for the 3:30 games today…….

Recover :?:

How about wining down ..?

Yesterday I had a nervous feeling all day, because history has a tendency to echo

Mrs Cane and myself went to a Home Free concert last night.

Was a Fantastic Show.

Show time was @ 8 pm, and was two towns over ... about a 35 minute drive.

My Birthday is next Saturday, on the 5th.

The last time my wife and I went to a Home Free concert in Autumn, it was on a Thursday Night, Oct 5th {my Birthday}, and Miami was playing Va Tech that night.

That concert was in Joliet, Illinois ... which is closer to 2 ½ hours away.

I had to wait until I got home to find out that Miami Lost that game.

Last night, we got home, I turned on the game, there was just over 12 minutes left, Miami was down by 10 and had the ball.

So, the only part of the game I watched, was Miami on the comeback, scoring 2 TD's, while stopping the Hokies, shutting down their Offense.

However!!

After the 2 minute Timeout, when the station came back from commercial break, Miami scored on the first snap, only taking 3 seconds off the clock.

I said; They scored too fast. They should have taken more time, and ran at least one to force Va Tech to use a TO.

Then, Va Tech began to move the ball pretty well ...

But Brent Pry  What on earth was he doing?

Where they had that last play with only 3 seconds left. Had he called the Timeout at mid field, there would have been about 35 seconds more on the clock.

The fact their QB got out of bounds without being tackled with time left was remarkable. And yet, it left them with only one play.

The Final Play :!: :!:

How did the refs discuss what they thought, without having made any call, after the Miami DB was running down the field with the Ball :!: :?:

And then to call it a TD :!: :?:

Look, we all Love a dramatic ending. But if nobody had a clear view of it, you cannot call it a Touchdown simply to let the Replay Booth make the decision.

Well, no, I suppose you can: If you're an incompetent ACC crew.

How about that Camera Shot that gave us the clean angle, at the end?

Watching it in Slow Motion, you think; There is no way they can overturn that.

Seeing the In End Zone view, you think; Well, hold on now. He may not have had the ball long enough to complete the catch.

What the Replay Booth had, that we the TV viewers didn't, is side by side frames of where the Receiver seemed to have the Ball, and the angle in the End Zone where the ball was out.

In Super Slow Motion, it appeared he could have the ball, until you realize the 2cnd frame, which was a fraction of a second from where the assumed catch was, shows the ball in between the DB's legs.

Watch it back in Real Time, which we did not have the privilege of viewing; The Replay Booth saw the ball out with no firm control through the process of reception.

If you stop the footage, it looks like the WR is holding the ball. Let the action play through, and you see the ball moving until the defender pulled it in.

Had it not been for that camera angle, Miami would be 4-1

Meanwhile ...

While they were trying to figure out who won the game; Washington was able to get the ball back, get down field to set up a game tying FG, with Rutgers.

And, like the Miami / Va Tech game, there was only 0:03 left.

And He Missed!

Two last ditch effort plays with Three Seconds to go, and both teams Lost.

Was a Tense Night to be a Home Team.

And with Ole Miss, Missing their last chance FG to tie things up ...

Looks as though Kickers are going to be in demand.

I wonder how many Special Teams coaches are scouring the Transfer Portal this weekend.

USC just scored a FG.

Their Kicker ... a Portal Transfer-In from Georgia Southern

I believe the ruling on that final play was that a player who was out of bounds had touched the ball before the receiver secured the catch……… meaning the ball was dead before the ‘catch’ was made.

The Hokies were just ‘snake bit’ last night, as it seems a 61 yard TD run was called back earlier in the game on a very questionable holding call, along with what surely appeared to be panic and mismanagement on the sidelines during the closing moments of the game. It’s one thing to be ‘snake bit’, but it’s a whole other thing when you get bit by your own snake.

……. and btw, those Home Free boys make a beautiful sound.

Yes, the official statement released by ACC officials after the game, is that one of the Miami DB's was out of bounds and touched the ball before the ball was secured.

It took them 10 minutes of replay time before they settled on that ruling.

Which means they looked at every single angle and analyzed each frame by frame segment.

Too me, it felt like they just needed a decision, and said; ""Let's go to the rule book, and look at Receptions, Paragraph B. Subsection 37 (c.)""

The sad reality, is that, people are going to argue that ruling for the rest of the season.

Some will never accept the official statement made.

I've seen comments that:

The ACC is protecting Miami, because it's their only Top Team.

Vegas got involved, and it's all rigged.

It was home cooking, and Miami had to cheat to win.

Okay, I get it. The Va Tech fanbase feels like they were robbed. Some people just hate Miami, and will always root against the `Canes. Some people just like to watch an upset, and root for the underdog.

A whole lotta subjectivity will keep this a hot topic til we play `em next year.

And, if we beat them; They'll still complain.

Yes, yes they do ...

It was the first time we've seen them since they changed out their Lead Tenor Frontman.

He stepped to the side, to take a brake from touring and to do some solo stuff. Plus he got married.

Originally, he was supposed to go through this tour with them. He's on the album they're promoting as this tour title.

He came out and told the fans he was exiting early, so the new guy was going to fill his tour obligations for him.

It was a great show. One of the best we've been to.

hey also announced their upcoming Project, another Christmas album, and made sure to tell us that it's ready for preorders

And of course, shamelessly plugged their Christmas tour, informing us they would be back in Indiana on a couple of stops.

And, and, of course, Mrs Cane went online to look up those dates & towns as soon as we got home ... while I was panicking over what in the world was going on.

Personally, I'm taking the egoist route.

Miami started taking control of the game, once I started watching.

I'm the winning factor 8)

Gentlemen…….. take heed. Never, ever, ever, ever agree to anything a woman asks or suggests while you are watching COLLEGE FOOTBALL on TV. :!: :!: :!:

I learned that lesson the hard way………. I’m sure you remember back when me and Elvira had a thing. Well, while I was watch a game she comes in a stands right in front of the TV and starts mumbling/talking. I didn’t hear a thing she said, I was busy moving my head from left to right and up and down trying to see around her, but not hearing what she actually said. I do recall saying something like “OK, I’ll take care of it.”

Later that NIGHT……… I found myself in a barn, armed with a fish landing net, trying to catch a bat, and later that same night, in a flat bottom boat on a pond searching the Cattail Patches for a bullfrog. Elvira needed ingredients for her ‘Witch’s Brew’.
