As Goes the Pondering of Predictions ...

Postby Cane from the Bend » Sat Aug 02, 2025 6:04 am

------------------------------------------------------------

The other day I glanced at the Pick'ems link and saw the Predictions for Week One / Week Zero hand only one reply ...

Mine.

There must be some serious head scratchin', Depth Chart Checkin', Injury Report Surveyin', Portal Scopin', Ticket Sales Scoutin', Weather Forecast Watchin', Coin Flippin', Card Readin', Bone Castin', Astrology Gazin' going on out here.

Because, despite no one else posting their Picks, I noticed there were 523 Views to the thread

My apologies Cane……….. Instead of enjoying while anticipating the up coming season of my far and away favorite sport and season of the year, I’ve been spending my time watching, reading and listening to the “leadership” and goings on in my favorite sport. And to say the least I’m disappointed. In fact, I’ve concluded that if the entire mass of the all the brains of this ‘leadership group’ were dynamite it wouldn’t be enough to blow a wart off an ant’s hind leg.

I’ll get right on those Picks…….

I have been getting my team ready for the season and really haven't thought much about football yet. My team is one of the two best teams in our state division and I have to make sure they live up to their potential.

Actually, I just thought with how many views the thread had gotten, you guys were struggling with you're picks.

I'm not going to lie. Some of them I went over a few times and recanted my initial choice.

I also didn't post them all at the same time. I went through and did them in blocks.

I get being busy, and certainly know what it's like to be distracted.

So much is changing in the sport, you have to sift through the mess to find out what is news worthy, rumor or hyperbole, these days.

I'm trying to focus ahead, now, however. We're inside the month, and it still feels like much long than just 19 days away. I hope that I can even remember on the 23rd to see the first kickoff.

Speaking of ‘hits’……….. I went over to the PICKS to see what task you laid out for us and since you mentioned it, happened to glance at the number of ‘hits’ were on each posting.

My eyebrow raised when I saw thousands each week we ‘pick ‘em’ and well over 370 THOUSAND for our Bowl Picks last season.

We’ve either got a lot of followers or we can’t make our mind up on which team to pick.

I would admit that I don't put a ton of time into my picks. At least early. It is kind of a crap shoot for me until a few games are played.

Outside of the the ‘Warm Up Games’ where the ‘David’s’ don’t have a rock big enough to even knock a knot on Goliath’s head, it’s pretty much a guessing game and throwing darts at a board while blindfolded. These early season Big Boy Games often are decided by miscues, turnovers or poor execution, and you just don’t know which team is going to flub-up the most.

I pondered for about 4 seconds. I always figure Hawaii has an advantage at home being as just going to the site is a distraction for the other team.

That’s what Cane does with the PICK ‘EM list……. he’s got ‘em all out there, from the BEST to the WORST teams.

Ohio State vs Texas……. CFP Level Competition
Clemson vs LSU……. CFP Level Competition
Notre Dame vs Miami……. CFP Level Competition

and then……… Stanford vs Hawaii…….. both of these teams could lose an intersquad game

……. and you gotta pick the WINNER

My advice…….. Get out your Kennedy Half Dollar and flip it……

Often times, after I settle on the games and post the picks ...

I then turn around to look them over so I can make my predictions.

And then I find myself thinking: "Good Lord, what did I just do?"

The thing about the Picks List you prepare is that not only does it have high profile and fan favors, but also includes teams not so well known AND don’t have a lot of media coverage.

We all have our favorite teams and conferences we follow, along with ones we respect and also one’s we despise, that we keep-up with, but that’s not enough when picking from THE CANE PICKS……….

You gotta be a COLLEGE FOOTBALL FAN and keep up with ‘em all.
