1 WVU
2 Notre Dame
3 Pitt
4 Georgetown
5 Providence

Here are five for now, the rest will come later.
But I think that Rutgers and Louisville will end up at the bottom or near the bottom of the Conference.

The Big East surprisingly isn't that good this year. I don't think that UConn is way overrated, Marquette isn't a very good team, so I think Pitt wins by default.

hi all: As of tonight I have seen all Big East teams at least once>

And, Georgetown is the pick of the litter. Of course we still have half a season to go.

1. Pittsburgh
2. Georgetown
3. Marquette

The rest of the league is a toss-up where I believe anybody can beat anybody on any given night .... well, that's probably an overstatement since maybe not everybody else can beat everybody else, but nobody can beat everybody else as far as the remaining teams are concerned.

Really young league this season, except for Pitt.

dramatic late season turnaround

Postby Swamp Daddy » Tue Feb 27, 2007 11:51 pm

:D Hi all: In what is a surprise to me, UL has turned their season around in the last 1/4 of the season. I had figured us for another middle of the pack finish but we are now solidly in 3rd place and could move to 2nd if Pittsburg suffers another loss; and, we already have the first round bye in the tournament. Amazing to me considering the way the season started. Winning the last 5 games (3 of which were tough ones on the road), UL has surprised me and a lot of others. So much for my earlier :oops: picks on this.

2006 - 07 STANDINGS (as of today)

Big East Overall

* Notre Dame 10 5 .667 22 6 .786
* Syracuse 10 5 .667 21 8 .724
* Marquette 9 6 .600 22 8 .733

* Connecticut 6 8 .429 17 11 .607
St. John's 6 9 .400 15 14 .517
Seton Hall 4 10 .286 13 14 .481
USF 3 11 .214 12 16 .429
Rutgers 3 12 .200 10 18 .357
Cincinnati 1 13 .071 10 18 .357

*in the tournament
# first round bye.

Marquette has faded quite a bit, Syracuse has improved too. Most disappointing might be almost periennal power Connecticut who has fallen this year. I guess, just like in football, the C-USA expatriates now in the Big East have had a difficult time adjusting to the physically pounding schedule in their new league. But, they are adjusting. It should be an interesting Big East tournament for me.

UConn is rebuilding after senting all five starters from last year's team to the NBA, if my memory serves me correctly.

Yes, they are. I recognized that my post up above meant to say that they were way overrated. That was a mistake on my part.

But, I would give the Big East NINE bids before I would give the Big 10 FOUR. The Mountain West should get FOUR bids before the Big 10 does. I just feel that this conference is so freaking bad for what it should be that it is beyond sad :(

Seriously. If you saw the Michigan/Illinois contest, I felt like I was watching Oakland play Chicago State. It was terrible basketball. Michigan is a bad team, Illinois is mediocre, Indiana is mediocre, Michigan State is mediocre. There you go.

Wisconsin/Ohio State basketball is 100% the same thing as Michigan/Ohio State football this past season. Two decent teams beating up on a pitiful conference.

Sorry, I'm rambling off-topic again :oops:

My main point was that I would give a bid to a team like DePaul, Providence, Villanova, or even UConn a bid over whoever finished 4th in the Big 10.

If it were up to me, I would give the Big 10 3 bids going to Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Illinois. Maybe I would throw one more in there between Indiana or Michigan State. Remember Iowa, who I believe lost to Drake in December, is like 4th or 5th in the conference. It's a terrible conference. I'd give the Big East those 9 bids instead of this conference.
