Boise State at Hawaii

Well it looks like Boise State and Hawaii will be playing for all the marbles ,if they can get by Idaho and Nevada. At stake, a WAC championship and a possible BCS berth. It will be a good game. If Boise State is up for it, I pick them, What's your take?

I think that Hawaii has no chance to beat Boise State unless Boise State just doesn't show up at all. Hawaii isn't a good football team.

I disagree, Spence. "No chance"? Whenever Hawaii is in Honolulu, they at least have a chance. They're good, but they aren't anything special. Boise State isn't a special team either (sorry, Donovan ).

I don't think Hawaii will get by Nevada come Friday. I think the pistol offense will be clicking against their defense and Hawaii isn't that great on the road.

Spence, which games have you seen Hawaii play in? Hawaii has a big advantage when they play teams on the island and they're at a disadvantage playing so far from home.

If you saw them against Louisiana Tech and San Jose State, you'd be less than impressed. If you saw them against UNLV or New Mexico State, you might not be as unimpressed.

I don't think that being so far away from home is the problem, it is the distractions of being in Hawaii. Boise State has been to Hawaii before, so the distraction factor isn't as great and Boise State wants to go to a bowl, so it will be like a business trip for them.

I haven't seen Hawaii play at home. I have seen them play on the road and they aren't good. Brennen has impressive moments, but as a whole he forces throws and tries to make throws that he isn't capable of throwing. Boise State may not be a front line team this year, but they are lots better then Hawaii. I'm sorry, Hawaii doesn't impress me in the least. I think at least 50-60 teams are better then Hawaii.

Hypothetical question for you Spence. Let's say Hawaii goes unbeaten and is the only unbeaten team left standing and then they somehow get elevated to the #1 or #2 spot and in the BCS Championship game. How would you feel about the BCS setup then.

Also there will be people that will be outraged at Hawaii being the only unbeaten team left standing and not in the Championship game.

If you ask me if I believe Hawaii should make it with their schedule, I would say no. Still if they make it in, then they make it in. If they win - they would be champs. I don't have a problem with that. They best team(s) sometimes doesn't become champion, but that wouldn't change in a playoff. So If the Computers, coaches, and Harris voters put them in, then who am I to cry foul.

I am against playing four, six, or eight extra games in CFB if the schools are going to try and maintain a student athlete type situation. If people want playoffs, then the NFL can institute a minor league system and pay these guys to miss the whole holiday season with their family and work. I honestly beleve that even an eight game playoff system would be the end of CFB as we know it. I believe if we are going to have that sort of system that D-1A would need to be cut to 24-26 teams and intraconference schedules would have to be instituted. I don't believe that CFB could maintain order among 119 teams when most of them wouldn't get to practice past the last week in December. I believe you would have massive unrest among the masses of teams who would rarely, if ever, get to play a playoff game. I do think that would be the situation.

I don't disagree that a playoff would not guarantee that the best team would win, but it would be settled on the field, as opposed to voters determining the final game. I do agree that the Championship game should be LSU, assuming they win out and the Big 12 champion, unless Oklahoma wins the Big 12, but losses another regular season game. If Okie should lose and then win the Big 12, IMO should put Ohio St back in the game, assuming they beat Michigan. My guess would be W Virginia would be in the championship game, as Ohio St's loss was too late in the season.

I think the championship game settles things on the field. It is a playoff of sorts and the teams that play are determined the same way any other playoff would be determined. The amount of teams is most peoples rub. I think that this system preserves the bowls and gives 60+ teams a chance to play in a post season game. Play offs would eliminate that because TV wouldn't care about those games. Even if they did play them at first they would wither and die because of lack of network support. That means 103 teams each year don't get a post season. That would give the 16 or so teams that do get to play a post season would have a huge recruiting advantage. Kids want to play on national television.

Playoffs would give us a champion settled on the field between a wider pool of teams. They would make lots of money. The controversy would be less then what we have now. I don't question any of that. I do think that the bad out weighs the good in a playoff scenerio.

If I take my homer hat off, I think West Virginia deserves a shot at the championship if LSU loses and West Virginia wins out. Ohio State was in the drivers seat. They controled their own destiny. They lost and they have to live with the consequences of losing. That is why I like the Michigan game being at the end of the season. I want Ohio State to have to go through Michigan to go to a BCS game. I want Ohio State to catch them at the end of the season when a team should be playing their best football. I think all the big rivalry games should be the last game of the season.

I agree and most rivalries are at the end of the season.....not sure who cares about UW and WSU this year..I digress....I think that is something that gets spoiled by conference championships. I just think we fixed something that was not broke and now in the words of one of my granddaughters....it is now more broker........

I like to watch all the rivalry games. Even the ones that are only for pride. I think playing for pride is under-rated.

It is true..with longed seated rivalries....a lot of "stuff" just does not count...wins..losses...this and that....it pumps us all up.
