Re: Boise State being snubbed by BCS
I wish that the "best" teams played...I don't care if four are from one conference.
The problem is that there never will be a real conscensus of which teams merit the tag.."the best".
LOL...Personally, a lot of southerners, myself included, won't believe in the Buckeyes until they face a top 10 OOC team and play close.
But, I also watch a lot of football. I don't sell Wisconsin short. It is all match ups. OSU has had some bowls and with USC and SEC teams that didn't match up well. Wisconsin is the exact sort of team that FSU has problems with on a match up.
Wisconsin's O line averages 319 pounds and they have a 260 pounf FB and a couple of 240 pound RBs. FSU plays no player on defense heavier than 286 and several guys that will play some at defensive tackle weigh in the 250's (watch for Everette Stewart at 242 pounds at defensive tackle for the Noles). The small interior D line at FSU has been in trouble when teams run north and south and I hope Mickey schemes better than he did against Boston College and their big line. BC manhandled the Noles up front.
FSU, for the first time in a while, does not have a NFL caliber DT on the line...no strong big guys to collapse the pocket or hold up two offensive linemen.

BB, do you have some coach in you. Or did you take the same public speaking classes.

Close matchups are good. They have the potential of a spirited contest. I think the BSU TCU matchup is good. Closely ranked, and in their last bowl game when they met,,,,the Armed Forces Bowl...something else then.BSU won..so TCU will be fighting. San Diego is a great venue, good weather and a lot of interest. That bowl was indeed started to give some mid majors a place to go. The WAC back when it had BYU et al found that very suitable.

It will be a good match up, just not the bowl Boise State deserved IMO.

I like the TCU match up much better than if Boise was taking OSU's place with Texas. Sure, you could root for the underdog and it would be exciting for Bronco fans...but I think the TCU match up has more liklihood of being a good contest.

I agree. Here is my take on the Boise thing. They had great glory in beating Oklahoma. The beat them by 1 point in overtime. Not a statement of superiority, just was a good win for them. And the fact there was razzledazzle gave the game great entertainment value. Still one of the most fun games to watch the last plays. OK....
It is like when you were a kid and walked down the road with your friends and picked up a rock and threw it at a telephone pole and hit the pole, first shot. NEVER pick up the second rock. We all have learned...drats..I should have quit while I was ahead.
Well...I am not saying Boise can not compete with so top schools, they have....but this TCU matchup is very good. Both teams will play hard and it has potential.
BSU can be glad that Ball State did not take up the Humanitarian Offer...that would be a real downer, now.
If they are only going to take one Non BSC team, Utah was the right choice. If Utah looses and BSU wins...now we have proven nothing...but a lot of good conversation.....

I wish others could assess the Boise situation as clearly and honestly as you just did. I cannot disagree with any of your post.donovan wrote:billybud wrote:I like the TCU match up much better than if Boise was taking OSU's place with Texas. Re: Boise State being snubbed by BCS
The point isn't whether Utah or Boise State wins the games, it is whether or not they compete. If they have the ability to compete, then a 12-0 team should go ahead of a 10-2 team that has no marquis wins either. I would think the Oregon win was as good as the Michigan State win. That is even. Maybe some of the other wins that Ohio State had were tougher teams, but it is really splitting hairs when you start saying "my bad wins are better then your bad wins. The big difference for me is that Boise State won their games the way you should beat bad teams. Ohio State really did not. Ohio State was not the representing conference champ, they should be at the Cap one bowl, not the Fiesta.
As for Boise State, it would be up to them to prove they were the right team to be picked.

I have more than a clue, I studied engineering and physics in college, and did pretty well. Granted, it was 20 years ago.

I don't agree with that statement. And I think it's very slanted. Define "very best".
Billybud wrote:Data compiled by ktffan...this is the definitive post It was current through the 2005 season, I believe.
I don't think kttfan proved anything, myself. He also posted data that suggested the opposite viewpoint.
Do you remember the compilation of games, OOC. It indicated a relatively high winning % OOC, for the WAC.
kttfan is entitled to his opinion, as are you. You present 'evidence' that supports your position, I present valid data that suggests you are wrong. It isn't fabricated, it's valid. FYI, your conference (ACC) is right at .75 against non-BCS, OOC.
I'll let you decide for yourself if that's good, or not. To me, it suggests the non-BCS conferences are competitive.

If a .25 winning percentage is considered good.

In the Alternate Universe...losing 75% of your games is considered "competitive". In this universe it means that you stink up the place.

That means the ACC isn't very competitive against the BCS, by your own definition of competitive, unless 20% qualifies.

I have no idea what you are referring to.
