I was 16 then.
Was that during the Lincoln or Johnson Administration?

Re: Deception
My first job was on a dairy farm. I started at $1.75 and hour and worked my way up to mimimum wage - $2.90. I hated that job at the time, but it taught be to work. It also taught me that cows do not take days off for anything.
You have to milk twice a day, every day - and that is the easy part.

Haaa! "Worked your way up to minimum" wage did you?
Did you learn your way around a shovel?

I learned my way around just about everything on that farm. I actually learned to drive in an old pickup on that farm, among other things. I also learned that the work day started at 4:30AM and was finished when I was done.

Re: Deception
Finishing when your done is the best of jobs...and the worst of jobs! Likely not the best for you in that situation. I like it when somebody gives me "a days work" as that is what it took on average for the people who came beofre me. (Knowing people I figure they squeeze in some more work here.) Within a week people want to renegotiate with me what a days work means! I've went through this everywhere I've been.

Yeah, on the farm your list grew every time you completed a task. In the late spring (after school was out) we could hit 18 hours for some stretches. My dad said that would keep me out of trouble. He was wrong.
