Oscars = Epic Fail!

Postby Eric » Mon Feb 23, 2009 1:46 am

I happened to catch three out of the five pictures that were nominated as being the best (The Reader, Slumdog Millionaire, Frost/Nixon). Normally, I wouldn't watch these at all and Slumdog was the only one that piqued my interest before the Oscar nominations went out because of the hype from a few independent festivals. These were all so stunningly average that it blew my mind. Slumdog was a decent film, but not anywhere near as good as the Hollywood pinheads would have you believe. Am I really supposed to believe that the legal system in India would torture somebody for suspected fraud on a gameshow? Is that how things seriously work there? I doubt it. Just a dumb premise. Not to mention the love storyline is inane. So this kid meets a girl when he's about 9 years old and is still in "love" with her when they haven't seen each other for 10 years? Sorry, that's a tough sell.

This movie won out of sympathy for the impoverished from the West coast elites. Sean Penn's "working with world leaders" line from Robert De Niro was actually a reference to Hugo Chavez. So........There you go. :roll: . As a matter of fact, most of the nominations make sense from a left-wing viewpoint: Richard Nixon was a total douche, the homosexual community is being suppressed (which I actually kind of agree with), sympathy for the impoverished underdog, The Visitor which portrays illegal immigrants in a positive light (I haven't seen this yet so maybe I shouldn't judge it, but it sounds more character-driven. Libs can't understand the fact that illegal immigrants are not here legally and thus the law should be enforced, it irks me to no end), Frozen River which discusses the same topic, etc.

Best film of the year was Gran Torino, best actor was Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino, and In Bruges should have won something. I'm cool with Heath Ledger even though I thought the Dark Knight was overrated somewhat. Funniest movie was Pineapple Express, best foreign film should have gone to Gomorra (although I don't normally see foreign movies, it was about the Italian mob), and best action movie was Rambo. There were plenty of good films out there, the Academy was just too dense to find them. When they did the In Memoriam montage with people like Scofield, Heston, and Newman, it made me think, "wow. Milk, Slumdog Millionaire, and Benjamin Button are what passes as quality cinema nowadays." :roll:

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

For you folks in Ohio, don't EVER get a fish drunk...You will go to jail. At least that's what I say on TV tonight.

I wasn't aware that fish drank at all. :oops: Ohio does their best to put you in jail for just about anything. We have the biggest small towns in America. There is a speed trap on every corner.

Not that I would have ever been participatory in such an activity...but I think many have put gold fish in a bowl of beer....that they died happy is only speculation....that they died..is not.

I can not watch such Super Liberal swill. My wife will watch such things on occasion and she is also known to watch Inside Edition and that other trash about the stars. It turns my stomach, about the closest I come to hating is the Hollywood crowd, by mass. They have done their level best to ruin this country and I'll be darn if I participate in anything that might even slightly appear that have respect (let alone some form of reverence) for them!

Now I am torqued, after what had been a good day!

Well, we all know what the Oscars has become. It's just a giant get-together-party for Hollywood and is rarely about rewarding the best achievements in film anymore.
