How Cold Has it Been for the Rest of You Guys?

Postby Eric » Wed Aug 12, 2009 11:04 pm

I know there are some things in old-fashioned society you don't talk about in public: politics and religion to name a few. We've broken about all of those rules    I just thought of something to ask the rest of you guys seeing as how you're pretty well dispersed. The weather! Oh wait.....Global warming

I kid :D . Is it just me, or has this been a really cool summer? I'm too lazy to check out stats and the latest Google search I did didn't really yield many results that I was looking for. Maybe it's just the Midwest getting a current from Canada or something, I don't know, I'm no scientist. The reason this came to mind was because we're getting this heat wave coming out of nowhere. For the most part, from the end of May to right now, we've stayed consistently in the high 70's. I'm not even talking the 80's here, it's been in the high 70's for most of the year.

Hey Derek, how far north in Alberta (or was it Manitoba) were you working? Did you stick around long enough for the summer season? I figured a Southerner would have trouble in that foreign climate Actually, I don't have room to talk. Michigan winters are awful enough for me. I couldn't handle Canada.

I arrived on Fort McMurray Alberta on Aug 26 2006 and left on November 10th 2006.

When I got there, I was walking around in shorts, for about a week. Then it started to get COLD. I remember it snowing on Halloween and kids doing the trick or treat were out in it like it was no big deal, probably a foot or so on the ground already. :o They would come to the door at the house I was staying in and knock on the door and I would throw the candy in their bags, cause the landlady was gone, and close the door quickly because it was COLD. And there were little girls dressed as ballerina's in that weather....they thought nothing of it. I still don't understand that.

My last night in Fort McMurray, it was -20F in November. It usually get's to -40 during Jan-Feb. I could not handle that either.

We have only had three ninety degree days this year. That is below normal for the summer. I'm not sure it attributes to anything other then a cooler overall year in our area. Some places are warmer then normal, some are cooler. I do know my tomatoes haven't fared very well this year.

Hot in the southeast...the air currents are keeping it hot...97 degrees and 95% humidity yesterday....we broke a record for days of 100 or more in July.

Although, as I type..it is overcast and only 76 degrees and rain..

We have had record breaking heat...was 107 one day....no rain..about 1/4 inch in three months. Right now..overcast..sprinkles and lightening and thunder predicted. Need the rain...but forest fires are always an issue up here. Temperature today to be abut 70....as in perfect.....gaggle of grandkids in town...scratch perfect..their parents came with them.

Alright, sounds like it's just the Midwest then. I didn't realize why I haven't been hearing more reports about the ridiculously cool summer.

Here in Southern California we have seen below average temps for most of the summer. Lots of days in the 70's....it was down in the upper 50's/lower 60's the other night. Past couple of weeks in the low to mid 80's. It is usually in the 90's or higher this time of the year in Southern Cal.

I was just in Arkansas last week....they are having a very mild summer compared to what is usually expected. I know before I arrived in Arkansas, they had two weeks of upper 70's and lower 80's for highs. That is just unheard of this time of the year. It is usually mid to upper 90's....with a few triple digit temps mixed in. Even though the weather was cooler when I was in...the humidity was still very high. They have had a few warm days but well below average. They have also been getting rain...I grew up in Northwest Arkansas and you almost never get rain in the summer.

Eric...I saw some news report the other night where a scientist was trying to explain that the current low temps are a direct result of global warming. I thought it was a comedy skit at first...but realized he believed what he was saying. Made no sense to me, and I found the entire thing quite humorous. He was trying to show that: when the temps rise it is caused by global warming, when the temps go down it is caused by global warming, when a drought hits it is caused by global warming, when it rains more often it is caused by global warming, and all the hurricane and tornadoes were caused by global warming. Maybe his loss of brain cells was caused by global warming.

Makes perfect sense to me! Crystal clear!

I don't want to hear from anybody but BB and Donovan on this...you guys are killing me!

San Antonio...old record 36 days of 100 or higher. We are now at 52! But I want to hear about how many days are 97 or higher. I can't recall 1 day since May below 97. You know it is hot when 98 feels OK!

While working on my deck yesterday (or what I like to call Championship Lumber Wrestling...as they don't make straight boards any more) I spat on the ground 5 times..turns out I increased the summer rainfall by 11%!

What I don't get...who the Hell came through here 150 years ago and said, "Oh Hell yeah, honey we could carve out quite the life here!" ?????? There is a chance the guy wouldn't look at a map...where I am sure he would have found it was marked, "the Valley of the Shadow of Death."

*And yet, back home unseasonably cool, one of the best Summers ever." I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the USAF for having brought me here 3 times! Off we go into the wild blue yonder my foot! Off we go into the dead brown squander!

WoVeU, my brother-in-law lives in Indio, CA (right outside Palm Springs....about a 2 hour drive directly East of LA). It is in the middle of the desert...why anyone would start communities out there is beyond me. My brother-in-law was happy to see the temps had dropped at his out last week....it only made it to 107. :D Normal temps this time of year at his place are usually 112-115. It has actually been normal temps for him most of the summer. Hot, hot, hot. My wife and I spent a couple of nights at his house last summer. When we went to bed at midnight it was still 101 outside. That is just crazy.

The NW is having a drought. In high 80's again. No Rain.......

I have an internal need to see at least two football games a year where I am drenched and the filed is so muddy....If I wanted neat and tidy and chamber of commerce football weather...I would move to Florida.....

Hey, everybody else is! I think they all have heard of Billbud and just move there for the off chance they might meet him!
