Dan Hawkins at Colorado

Postby 1992heritage » Fri May 21, 2010 2:04 pm

Dan Hawkins rise to become a Big 12 coach is amazing. His coaching credentials were limited before going to Boise State as an assistant, where his success as a head coach was because of Boise State's up and coming football program and a supporting cast of very good coaches. All he did at BSU was carry the torch for a few years. Chris Peterson was the genius not Dan Hawkins. He used Boise State to better his coaching position financially. Now that he is at Colorado he is showing his true colors.

I think the jury is still out on Hawkins. He should have a little more time to prove himself.

I don't know. If he is going to prove himself he needs to get Colorado above .500 pretty quickly. I don't blame Boise or Colorado for hiring him, but after 4 seasons with the Buffaloes all he has to show for it is 1 minor bowl appearance and no season better than 6-7. He's brought some respect back to the school, I'll give him that. He just has to get the results.

The fact Boise has continued without a hitch since Hawkins left does show that Petersen's ability there can't be denied, whatever your opinion on who did the real work under Hawkins tenure.

When you are losing like the Buffs...and the mostly bad quarterback is also the coach's son....the coach gets a lot of blame for the losses.

Coaching doesn't really win a lot of games...recruiting well does.

He inherited a mess from several years ago. I'll bet he is gone if he doesn't do 8 wins. That being said, some of the best coaching jobs are 50-50 and never get recognition due to circumstances.

I thought Danny Hope's first year at Purdue (5-7)was one of those. However, he still needs to prove himself. Can't wait for the season1
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.
