No way would the Big 10 want Iowa St, but if they did, my guess would be that they would be in the same division, like Michigan and Michigan St. This is a rivalry that Iowa did not wish to play for many years, and it really is a "no win" situation for the Hawkeyes.

Actually one game that really has my attention this week is Central Michigan at Temple. I'm not sure why this potential MAC Championship game matchup is taking place in week 2, but it is definitely interesting.

This is a good example of our varied perspectives....

With FSU-Oklahoma, OSU-Miami, USF-Florida, Ga-South Carolina, Michigan-Notre Dame, Tennessee-Oregon, etc, etc. This pairing was not even in my consciousness. Actually, not in my universe.

Goes to show that there is a lot of different worlds in college football and a lot of fan interests.

Quite true, but when I look for good college football games it doesn't have to do with how competitive teams are nationally or even regionally, just how they match up with each other. Maybe that makes me odd but I'd much rather watch a 31-30 game between two teams destined to go 3-9 than watch a 52-10 blowout featuring two teams in the Top 25.

I just had this conversation with a friend of mine last night. I go around to various high school football games on Friday nights and was telling him that I usually try to go to the best game I can find. When I told him of some of the games I have attended he couldn't understand how I would think a game between two teams that struggled to get four wins in a season could be one of the best I've ever been to. Well, the game had a final score of 48-45 in double overtime, that is why I would think that. I think sometimes we get so wrapped up in what the rewards for success can be that we forget the beauty of each individual game itself.

Of all the games you mentioned above really only the Michigan-Notre Dame game was a good game, coming down to the wire. Living in the Columbus area, though, I learned a long time ago not to like the Wolverines nor the Irish.

Are you talking about the other thread? If so, I disagree. I just think that the South has more athletes, but the fact remains that the "demand", so to speak, for these athletes is seen in the number of teams from down South. The South just plays more football, so naturally there will be more Southern teams to try to fill those gaps. Ohio plays a lot of football, but I think the amount of FBS teams that are located in Ohio stretch the diminishing talent that is there too thin. So the MAC is harmed in the process.

The South has better athletes overall, but that's just because there is a larger pool to choose from (so if the distribution of talent is even, there will be more good players and also more bad players). This is why the area can support two BCS conferences and two non-BCS conferences. It doesn't follow that a random team from the South has more talent than a random team from the North because of the dispersion of the talent.

As far as Canes @ Buckeyes:
Not sure where to go with this one. Do you take the Buckeyes because it is at home? Or are they just better? Tressel is a great coach also. I am taking the Buckeyes.

I feel you on this one;

Gonna be 36 in Oct myself...

You know? ... this post just got me thinking about something ... :

Hey, Spence!

Do you realize that we have been at this for 11 years now ( already ) ? :o

Kinda puts a different perspective on a few things, huh? 8)
