A Sweet Drop in a Bitter Cup

Postby billybud » Wed Sep 15, 2010 10:27 am

This weekend was like all of the bad things related in the old testament happening in one weekend, if your team plays in the ACC.

Watching young FSU get embarrassed was tough, even if they did play 26 freshmen (13 true). The defense did look better the second half, holding Oklahoma to 13 points and a little over 100 yards (the Sooner starters played until the middle of the 4th qtr.). Jimbo says his defenders never could get the positioning in the new scheme down with Oklahoma running the hurry up..and missed tackles were many. The outside WR screen worked all night for the Sooners

With FSU being trounced by Oklahoma, I looked around and thought..."Hmmm..some other conference front runners lost to James Madison and Kansas...this could be competitive."

The sweet drop in that bitter cup?

Ahhh..That Boise can brag that they, like James Madison, beat the Hokies. Although they didn't look as convincing while doing it. The Boise rah rah faucet got closed a notch. And that for Billy, avowed Boise skeptic that I am, was the sweet drop at the bottom of that bitter cup.

It must be horrendously bitter having to solace in someone else's misfortune...

However;

I am right there with you on this.

I dropped my head into my hand and jumped onto this site, officially retracting my endorsement for the broncos this past Saturday.

I also know how it feels to have belief in your team, that everything is looking brighter, only to be humble in Norman... happened to us `Canes fans in 2007, 51-13.

Though, I am less optimistic for the ACC in general. None of us have stepped up and flexed our muscles yet... if we even have any to flex.

Miami played better than the final score against Ohio State... but the Hurricanes did not deserve the win, when it came right down to it... and the final score, was what it turned out to be.

Anything could happen on any given Saturday ( sometimes Thursdays & Fridays ), which means, should there be a front runner in the ACC; that team could easily get knocked off by someone who is really, unlikely, to get the win.

The Conference looks to be having a down year... if our teams don't start winning some of these early out of conference games; a dominating in conference performance & a strong finish won't change the sting that will make this season feel like a losing one.

I can already hear the media hype, "Remember how poorly ____________ played at the start of the year? What a turn-around!"

Deep inside... it still won't feel like a successful season.

Then again...

At least you `noles have the suitcases on your schedule to finish out the year.

A win over them, after "how long", may take some of the burn off.

Until Boise frequents this site...

It matters little to me.

Is arrogance a criterion for being a football fan from the South?

The South.?.

South Bend is in Indiana.

And I could point out many of your own innuendos showing your arrogance.

Sarcasm & Cynical jargon is what you specialize in.

I apologize that I in the past have offended your sensibilities. The website has so few posters from the West...and there is good reason why that is...we forget our place.

He is from SOUTH bend....

That "south" in the South Bend feeds the arrogance factor, I am sure. Notre Dame, not known for modesty, sure ain't from North Bend, or We4st Bend...nooooo, the Domers claim the birth right of being from the south of the bend.

Gentlemen...Gentlemen....Please.

As I set my watch to SECDST I also like to remember that fact that the entire SEC East is not that great this year. That's humbling. :(
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

And I thought it had to be inherent... to be a true fan of college football; don't you need a little arrogance.
