Yes the schedule is weak, yes we don't know how good they actually will be until they play a tougher schedule, yes we realize that they are still a very good team and that it's not their fault that they play in the WAC, yes we know the Virginia Tech win ought not be diminished even though they lost to James Madison in a let-down game (that happened 5 days after the last football game which apparently works as an excuse for one team :D ), yes we know that Boise State plays on a blue field, yes we know Boise State will blow out everybody on their schedule by at least 35 points until the road game in Reno, etc.

Is there anything else going on in college football? 8)

OH...it was not to quit bashing Boise...A moderator of this forum put a moratorium on talking about Boise's in a positive manner. Censorship on this forum is very specific and very direct. :?

The first polls are based on potential...as Bobby said "potential means that they haven't done it yet". The difference is that Bama can move from potential to fact by beating a row of teams like Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina, Auburn etc...

Boise has no way to convert potential into fact...other than beating up on hapless fodder teams with no real challenge.

From the current AP poll

# 1 vs 19
2 vs 20
8 vs 11
12 vs 14
13 vs 23
16 vs USC
17 vs 18

A lot of "play off" games. Meanwhile, Boise moves up from New Mexico State to Toledo and Utah plays Iowa State. A bunch of good teams will drop since there will be guaranteed losses in the Top 25....Boise and Utah will not be tested.

So much for off to other teams....

Great may be more than I would subscribe to their prowess.

But a nice 8 point win for the best of the WAC that year. Now, I would be impressed if they had beaten LSU, Mississippi, or Georgia that year. Or even Arkansas, Tennessee, or Florida.

2003 is a long time ago.

I like to think more about the present or at least this season. Who was that first WAC team that Bama beat this year and how could Bama be given a number one ranking for beating such a bottom feeder and at home yet? Must not have been SOS cuz that is a laugh -- just as much of a laugh as BSU's win over NMSU. But yet Bama held onto a number 1 ranking and BSU drops to 4... Thats because there is a political bias in the system.

That bias is supposedly based on SOS but "forwarding looking" SOS and anticipation rather than the actual "current" effort.

Now with that said lets just forget about the actual football games themselves and just look at the ability of the schedulers and the bankers. Why risk pre-bowl injuries - just let all the teams sit out for the season and let the SOS predetermine the bowls and just play the bowl games.

Why can't we just stop kidding ourselves about the political bias of the system. The only reason a Tennessee, LSU, Mississippi Arkansas and Florida are your mentions is because they are the politically correct elite called the SEC and they play only the most powerful teams to deserve their spots in this mindless game of polling. They would never ever "fluff" their schedule with powder puff teams like SJSU or NMSU -- after all, everybody knows those two teams are WAC bottom feeders...Yet, Alabama played them and beat them and were rewarded #1 for that great effort.

I'm not saying BS should have jumped up because of a win over the worst of the bottom dwellers -- but considering apples to apples this victory for the Broncos was decisive (with no points scored against) and AWAY while Alabama's was also decisive (with 3 points scored against them) and at HOME - very impressive for a number one ranking at the time.

LOL -- 8)
So since Alabama in the first week beat San Jose St 48-3 and San Jose St, is admittedly, not very good and at the same time Boise St beat Virginia Tech that is probably better than San Jose St, Boise should be ranked #1.

Now that make good sense. Oh wait, Va Tech is now around 30th. Arizona beat Iowa and Iowa is now ranked 13th, then I guess Arizona should be #1. Oh wait, Ohio St beat Miami (FL) and they are ranked 11th, so Ohio St should be #1. Strength of schedule may only be part of the equation, and really until the season is totally played, the strength of schedule may have less meaning.

collegfbfan...

So..Arkansas's opponents are 7-12? Boise's opponents are about one half that at 4-12 and it will get worse each week.

I'm as prepared as you are to declare Boise as "not a great team".

collegefbfan...

The first half of FSU against Oklahoma was horrendous with a young defense in its first FBS game in a new scheme against the hurry up...but the defense started to come together. They allowed the Sooners only one TD the second half...allowed BYU only one TD...shut out Wake...and led Virginia 27-0 at the half.

My only problem with Boise State is the liklihood that they will play only one ranked team by season's end...maybe none if VT gets beat again. And no team has played for the BCS championship with that kind of record.

I'm pretty sure he meant Oklahoma.
