When Will a Boise State "Coaching Tree" Develop?

I'm just thinking that if Peterson is one of the best button-pushers and play-callers in college football today, why aren't more Boise State assistants getting jobs in the non-BCS leagues and the FCS? Especially in the WAC, I would look for whatever magic Boise State has going for them and try to emulate it. A team like San Jose State could really use a Boise State-esque approach to the game, but instead they made a pretty odd hire in Jeff MacIntyre, a WR coach from the NFL with previous college experience at Ole Miss.

The reason I bring this up is because I'm watching the Boise State game and the playcalling is magnificent. Peterson tries to implement new "gadget" plays every week to throw teams off during film study, and I think that's a great idea that I don't see a lot of teams do. It's little things like that that I believe Chris Peterson students could employ at teams trying to be the next Boise.

Coach Petersen instills a loyalty with his coaching staff just like he does his players. They really like where they are and know that time will tell and when it does they all have a great future.

Didn't read the article, but I don't think they will develop a Coaching Tree, as the whole tree usually leaves for bigger places. Dan Hawkins / Houston Nutt.

I do think that assistants at major programs, such as Texas, Oklahoma, Florida etc. will get considered over assistants from non-BCS schools.

I'd agree for BCS teams. But they could seed some teams in the WAC, Sun Belt, or Conference USA. But I don't think anything is going to happen until Boise State wins a NC, or they spend 4 or 5 years doing great but not doing any better in regards to getting in the big game. I think the assistants would be thinking about getting that on their resume!

I didn't read all of this article. I know you didn't write it silver, it was written by a high school coach....it did show formations, etc...I have read many similar pieces on smartfootball. A good site.

Re coaching trees...Hawkins was doing great at Boise. He is now at Colorado. Don't forget him. Four Boise assistant coaches went with him to Colorado.
