Correct, it will not go away. If true, this is a textbook case. Not gifts, hopes, promises, meals, cars or free trips, money, traceable money. So here are the possibilities.

Auburn, SMU treatment for all the right reasons.

Mississippi St, shy of SMU treatment, but stiff for not reporting the obvious.

Heisman, forget it...he could get all the votes and they are not taking the chance of another turn back the trophy fiasco...that award is shaky enough and has about as much interest outside of the media as sideline coaches interviews...well maybe a tad more than those.

NCAA, Nothing...incompetence never gets penalized.

Sounds to me like Mississippi State is angry they didn't bid high enough. I think the fact that they didn't turn the kid and his family in at the time means they need the same punishment Auburn gets, because they seem complicit to me.

Miss State reported all conversations to the SEC office in January and then the SEC reported it to the NCAA. Why would Miss State be punished at all. They refused to pay money and reported it. This situation is very close to OJ Mayo and USC basketball. OJ Mayo was given money to play at USC. USC basketball was only band from post season play for 1 year and a few scholarships for 2 years. I bet Auburn gets about the same punishment as USC football if this is all true....vacate wins, post season ban for a coupleof years, and loss of scholarships. The issue is, how long will it take to resolve this? Months or years?

Cecil, Cam's father, said he would not confirm nor deny the allegations...he also called it a witch hunt. Do innocent people say they will not deny false claims? If I am innocent I say that...and loudly.

According to this tweet from Paul Finebaum, “ESPN Dallas’ Ian Fitzimmons is reporting that within 3-4 hours the NCAA is going to suspend Cam Newton.”

Is this true? We will have to wait and see.

Also, apparently the Auburn vs Georgia game has been removed from all the Vegas boards. Not sure why they would do this unless they knew something.

Joe Schad just reported that Auburn said Newton will play this Sat. Schad also said that the investigatin could last until after the season. So, if they have to forfeit wins then it will probably not happen until after the fact.

I would think if Auburn does not play him, it would be an admission of guilt. I would think they would continue playing him, unless the NCAA were to declare him ineligible. Cam may be in his 2nd or 3rd year in the NFL before anything gets decided ala Reggie Bush.

True. If Miss State reported it when it happen, then they don't deserve to get punished, but if they waited until after he declared.............

This has been a wild season with all of the pre-season conference re-alignment issues, USC getting smacked down, unc well on their way to receiving the same and now Auburn getting in line for a big plate of sancitons. I think with all of this chaos it will only be fitting to have Boise or TCU be crowned the champ this year.

About 20 minutes ago on ESPN radio in Dallas, Kenny Rogers (person who was helping Cam Newton in his recruiting process) was interviewed, along with his lawyer. Kenny Rogers said that he was at the meeting with Cam Newton, Cecil Newton, himself, and two Miss State coaches (meeting took place at a hotel in Starkville in Nov 2009). Rogers said that Cecil Newton flat out told the Miss St coaches that it would take 120,000 to 180,000 dollars to sign my son. Rogers said that the Miss St coaches told him they were not interested in paying them for Cam's services.

If this is true, and even if Auburn did not pay Cam, this does make Cam ineligble...right?

I understand the need for "due process" but this kid appears to be as guilty as they get.

The NCAA should pull out all the stops for a quick investigation and suspension if warranted. The last thing college football needs is a BCS championship vacated and another Heisman Trophy vacated.

This needs to be settled NOW - not ater the season.

They say "where there' smoke, there's fire". This is starting to look like the aftermath of a nuclear explosion. It's not just cheating, it's criminal extortion and bribery and if Auburn knowingly made that kind of deal with the devil, they should have hell to pay. And all of this happens with the USC situation out there in the public eye for years!!!!?? It looks like the only way you can teach a lesson is to give the program a severe death penalty (the SMU treated alluded to by others). Let's not forget that Auburn took a long time to crawl out of their last probation in the 90's. The program looks like a serial offender.
