When was the last time....?

Postby Jason G » Thu Nov 25, 2010 8:11 am

For those of you who like to, and have time to, research such things...

When was the last time that every FBS, or Division 1-A, college football team had at least one win?

My Zips will try to make this one of those seasons on Friday as they are the lone winless team in all of the FBS but host a 2-9 Buffalo team that has only one win over an FBS opponent this year themselves. Plus I think the Bulls looked better earlier in the year than they have recently, while Akron lost in double overtime two weeks ago and last week snatched defeat from the clutches of victory with a very late fumble in the 4th quarter deep in the red zone against a Miami team that now has 7 wins.

I hope history repeats itself. In 1994, Akron was also winless going into the season finale but came out victorious with a 24-10 win over Ohio University. Of course OU was also winless that year. If I'm not mistaken I believe that is still the only time in 1-A history that two teams met in the season finale with both still trying to notch their first 'W' on the gridiron for that season.

Happy Thanksgiving and Go Zips!

P.S. Watch out Ohio State, we've got you in our sights for the 2011 season opener. Seriously, who thought THAT was a good idea?

The Mac is fodder...but Ohio State has scheduled Texas. Miami, and Southern Cal in home and homes the last five seasons.

And has home and homes with Cal, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Cincinatti, and Oklahoma on the future schedules.

For what its worth it looks like the last time every FBS team had a win was in 2007 but I can't help but think that it must be much more common for there to be at least one winless team than that stat would indicate.
