The Coaching Carousel

Postby Eric » Sat Nov 27, 2010 8:06 pm

This is just the ongoing thread for all random coach talk. We get a new crop of 10-15 or so ever year, so here's my list for who will probably be looking for head coaches in 2011:

Minnesota (OPEN)
North Texas (OPEN)
Colorado (OPEN)
Ball State (OPEN)
Kent State (OPEN)
Vanderbilt (OPEN)
---------------------
Florida Atlantic (I think Schnellenberger will retire)
New Mexico
Indiana
Tulane

It looks like Canales will remain the head coach at North Texas since his presence there has really turned them around. Horton may stay at Minnesota after their big win against Iowa, but I don't know. The Gophers have really been aiming high with some of the candidates they mentioned, and I bet the boosters and fan base won't be satisfied with Horton. My guess is they try to go after Brady Hoke. Colorado may stay with Cabral, but again I doubt it. The names spilling out of the rumors are pretty high-profile, so I doubt they'll stick with the interim guy. I also just heard a rumor that Vanderbilt is very interested in Gus Malzahn, but I don't expect Malzahn's feelings to be mutual. If he became a head coach somewhere, it'll probably be somewhere with proven success and a carte blanche in terms of who can be recruited.

Anything else you guys hear out there?

Did you see Horton's interviews after and during his 5 games! A GREAT smile and attitude. He wants the guys to have fun! He has no chance to be a head coach after Minny's debacles and being in his 50's but, I REALLY like the guy!
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

Yep, I was afraid that was going to happen. Putting Miami on the list after they just lost was a little too soon for me, but if that report is accurate, then he is as good as done and I can certainly see why. That USF game was make-or-break. You'd think Whipple will take over for the bowl game.

Well Houston Nutt has called a 4 pm team meeting with the Ole Miss players on Sunday. When asked about it he said he would get into it tomorrow before they read about it. Rumors swirling on the ole miss boards...some say he is stepping down, some say he will be the next Colrado or Miami coach, others say he will announce that he is firing some of his staff...one thing is for sure: they want him out of Oxford. All info from Nafoom (main Ole Miss message board).

Rumor mill says that Mark Richt is the new coach at Miami.

I also know that Colorado was courting him.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

That would be crazy if Richt did that. The seat is getting really hot at Georgia though.

Nope;

Interim head coach to be Jeff Stoutland, Miami's Offensive-Line coach.

The Blue and Gold staff have stated that Stew has flat denied to them that he is thin king of retiring.
“If short hair and good manners won football games, Army and Navy would play for the national championship every year.”

This just in....to bad really

28th Official Retraction of the Bill Stewart Retirement Story

Mountaineer Nation…

I am sorry.

I am sorry for posting a false story pertaining to the Head Football Coach, Bill Stewart.
However, I was convinced I was doing my readers a huge service by posting a “pay to read” story… text obtained from a trusted source of mine.
But, it appears I was dead wrong, and as such, I am officially retracting the story.
However, EerSports.com ought to be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves for using a headline that’s a hot-button issue with WVU fans as bait in order to obtain paying memberships. I hope this stunt causes you all to lose a lot of money and causes your site to go under!
Because HailWV.com is a BLOG, and not a NEWS SITE, I made the executive decision to run with the story, knowing the major risk involved. Some risks pay off, others do not. This one, obviously, did not pay off.
I hope you all will continue to visit HailWV.com on a regular basis for all of your WVU football and basketball news.
Shame on EerSports.com for resorting to such lowball and underhanded tactics to gain paid memberships! A sleazy cash-grab in this awful economy is NOT a way to win people’s hearts and money.
You all obviously need to hit the darn drawing board when it comes to MARKETING, because you all obviously suck at it!
Simply disgusting and distasteful!

According to Ark sports radio the Arkansas State job will be open before the day is done...they said the lead candidate is Ark running back coach and head of recruiting Tim Horton.

Also reported that Louisiana Lafayette has current and first year Ark offensive coordinator Garrick McGee on their short list.

Of course last year Illinois snatched Ark offensive coordinator Paul Petrino.
