I would think that if he is happy and making enough money to satisfy him and his family, a move to Florida might be a mistake.

Similarly, Ben Jacobsen the Northern Iowa BB coach who last year beat Kansas in the NCAA tourney and got to the sweet 16, signed an extension to his contract to stay in Cedar Falls. I am sure he could have stepped up to a bigger stage, and made more money, but decided to fore-go those options. Kind of refreshing.

I do not know what his wants and needs are. He has a family, a challenged child and has found Boise very accommodating to his family... uprooting them may or may not be in his best interest. He has state he can not spend all the money he makes now and gave over 300,000 to the school for academic scholarships. Pat Hill from Fresno just too a pay cut.

The Florida job is a premier opportunity for someone, but it comes with a price that may just be too expensive. You are right about Hawkins and others.....but...Petersen did not walk into an unsuccessful program. It had been building for years..about ten. This was not a turn around job when he took it.

The Florida job, like any high profile job needs to go to a coach who is secure in his outside life. It is also not really a job for a "hands on" type coach. The guys who do the best at programs like Florida are the big picture guys. The manager type guys. The "nuts and bolts" type guys burn out too quick at the big schools.

So, of all the available Head Coaching jobs, florida announces their replacement first.

Will Muschamp out of Texas.

florida was the latest to have a vacancy, and first to name their new man.

Kind of makes you wonder if the head office already knew what Meyer's intentions were; and knew precisely who they wanted as their next coach.

The gators' interviewed only Muschamp, and no one else.

Muschamp is quoted saying that, "I wouldn't have left Texas for any other job".

This ends the Longhorns' coach in waiting cushion. And now Texas has to replace their Defensive coordinator as well.

Maybe Muschamp saw a sinking ship. And possible recruiting uncertainties. It's a good thing for Texas they have no Bowl game; or the distractions right now could amount to a disastrous showing.

Some reports are saying that Muschamp is bringing Applewhite to Forida with him. Wow...Texas may lose all their coaches before it is all done. I also was reading an article from a Gainsville newspaper that quoted both Forida AD Foley and Urban Meyer saying that Meyer may remain on staff in some copacity. How is that going to work out...do you thnk Muschamp will want Urban looking over his shoulder?

Seems a little strange. Urban quits last year fir health reasons and comes back...he quits again this year and says he may stay on in some capacity. Was being the head guy just getting to be to much?

Meyer has a family problem, that is obvious. If he didn't his behavior would paint him as a major league flake. Since he has been a head coach for over twenty years, it is unlikely that this would be the first sign of him being a flake. I don't know what is going on and it is speculation on my part, but it seems to me that there are home issues that Urban is having problems dealing with and he just can't fix them and be coach.

Looks like Temple's Al Golden will be Miami's new head coach. The deal is not finalized but looks to be soon. Here is the ESPN article.

That isn't someone I thought Miami would go after. That is what baffles me about Miami. They went to a ton of high profile bowls - ones they didn't cost them lots of traveling costs. They had to make a ton of money licensing their brand, which was one of the most popular brands for over twenty years. Why didn't they upgrade their facilities? I expected Miami to hire someone a little more high profile than Golden or someone that was associated with the program. I guess Donna Shalala has proven she can rob a university athletic program into the ground the same way she tried to do when she worked for Bubba.

2010, a year that will live in infamy for Longhorns.

I have no doubts that Mack will be able to hire a fresh new staff. He can recruit players, I'm positive he'll be able to recruit coaches. It'll hurt bad if Applewhite leaves. I'm not sure if it'll hurt the Win-Loss column, but it'll emotionally hurt Texas fans. Applewhite is a hero to us!

Tough time for Texas fans. The whole coach in waiting thing really doesn't work out well from what I see. I just makes things messy than they need to be.

I had some things to say before; However, Spence, you said pretty much what I was thinking.

I am disappointed. Of all the names on the list, Hockutt went with Golden. I don't know if he can make a significant impact immediately. We need someone who the incoming recruits can look at, and say, oh yeah, I can see myself playing for him.

Golden built Temples program up to a winning team, but only after several years. And, 8-4 may be respectable at Temple, but the Miami faithful will be calling for his head.

I hope he embarrasses my expectations of him.

On-the-other-hand, I am a bit relieved that we signed Golden, instead of Edsall.

And, at least we have somebody. This waiting around was driving me nuts, especially with recruiting looming.

Looks like Malzahn will take the Vanderbilt job per Fix sports.

Auburn may win the NC this year but will struggle to become bowl eligible next year...Cam gone, offensive line gone, and the OC that made the whole thing work.

Randy Shannon will probably go to Texas as DC. Appllewhite will stay with Texas to call O plays. If not, he'll go to be with Muschamp.

Golden will be a good catch for the Canes. They needed a energetic coaching staff...one that will recruit hard locally and not assume that Dade kids will all go to the U.

I think Miami fans will be pleasantly surprised with Golden. Granted, I think they could have done better but people are looking at Golden's overall record like he did a mediocre job. Temple was coming off of a winless season the year Golden got there and he recruited the heck out of the Pennsylvania area. He upgraded the talent pool there virtually overnight and the reason it took two years to get where he wanted them to go was because he was playing freshman and sophomores almost across the board in his first two years. Temple has been pretty solid for the last three years and I think he'll be pretty good at Miami. Not sure if he'll be a once-in-a-program kind of coach, but I don't think people should be predicting Armageddon.
