As Long As We're Hanging Out Dirty Laundry...

Postby donovan » Fri May 06, 2011 11:36 am

Here are the links...Please note the seriousness of the violations.

The majority of allegations involve impermissible housing, transportation or meals, where an incoming student-athlete was provided a place to sleep (often on a couch or floor), a car ride or was provided free food by an existing student-athlete.

In football, the NCAA determined that total dollar value over five years was $4,934 for all of the housing, transportation and meals provided to 63 incoming student-athletes. All services ranged from $2.34 to a maximum of $417.55 and have been reimbursed by the student-athletes. In tennis and track and field, the NCAA determined that 16 student-athletes had received extra benefits over the five years equaling a $718 value. Other small dollar excess benefits are also alleged in the notice. All these funds were reimbursed as well and all were donated to charity.

Exactly...and do you suppose the cost of defending, replying, etc far exceeds the "infractions." You can not have it all ways...the NCAA is a self serving institution.

PS...and I so you do not think it escaped me...I got the potato reference.

LOL...and I thought that my "wit" would go unnoticed.

No defending here for Boise...just the normal small payback...all inadvertant, nothing hidden....case closed.

Is that potatoe or potato? Or, J-O-B-S spelled with 3 letters!

They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

The correct spelling of the word is potato. Nouns ending in s, ss, ch, sh,* x, and o, form their plural by attaching -es at the end of the word.

(*sh, except for the word fish)

Of course, some Republicans like to spell it potatoe in honor of Dan Quayle...

I am too lazy to double check but, I believe there are two ways to spell it! At least once the brouha over Quayle subsided it was supposedly two back then! I always laughed when Biden said JOBS was done with 3 letters and almost nothing was made of it. Razorhawk is an expert on the Kings English. perhaps he will opine!

Ah, I did check. TOE was an accepted form until the last century. For me both count but, what the heck, I am a rabble rouser! http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_potatoe_an ... _of_potato

Using "toe" was acceptable through the last century and is still in current colloquial use in certain areas of Arkansas and West Virginia.

GoBoilers: Again it gives me great pleasure to tell you that you are wrong.

According to Wikipedia: Answer:

Apparently in the 19th C or before potato was spelled potatoe - but in the 20thC potato became the correct spelling and potatoes for plural. So now potatoe is considered a misspelling.

Razor, you did give me great pleasure. You'll also note you and I have the same link. LOL. Remember I live in the past plus I understand in Arkansas both ways are still acceptable. Especially up in the NW corner!!! Even Billy Bud in a prior post confirms this.

Spud I know here in the frontier, we always look to Arkansas and West Virginia as our source of light and truth for our orthography.

Self-Reporting doesn't make most of the stuff a violation. Anything under $100.00 per athlete isn't considered a violation but is expected to be reimbursed via donation to charity. Almost 80 athletes and $5,500 dollars doesn't sound like many actual violations.

The tennis coach thing is pretty major but since they fired the coaches it'll be interesting to see if there are any real punishments handed down.

And for those that can't spell, it's Spuds!!! Idaho Spuds that is.
