Boise's new conference has outlawed Boise's all blue uniforms at home games as a "competitive advantage".
Boise can wear blue with white jersies or blue jersies with white pants, etc...but the all blues can not be worn.

I think that is silly. It looks like an advantage from the sky, but I doubt that it is the same at ground level. The background a defender would see would be the background of the crowd and stadium. The field thing is much ado about nothing, IMO.

I think I read something to your statement, claiming that from the press box, it was more difficult to observe and therefore did serve as a disadvantage to the assistants in the booth.Spence wrote:I think that is silly. Kind of a stretch, I think. That being said, I will not watch a Boise State game on TV, as I can't stand the blue field.
I think the conference may have made a mistake by not forcing them to change the field and let the uniforms stay. I am sure I am not the only one that will not watch a game on the blue field, and this could translate into lost TV revenue.

I could see where maybe from the press box it would be tough, It wouldn't be an issue from ground level.

"Outlawed" is such a great word.
As for the effect...in person, not so bad...on TV terrible...if you are the opposing team..one excuse is as good as another.

"Outlawed" seems appropriate for the west...a celebrated tradition. And it makes definitional sense...

I think I'll make a point of watching all Boise's games. How about that!

The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

I'll offer my take on it.
In 2004 I went to the Peach Bowl with Florida playing Miami.
I was in the upper deck of the Georgia Dome and Miami had on white jerseys and Orange britches. Florida's uniforms were the exact opposite.
It was INSANELY annoying and I ended up leaving at the 3rd half, mostly because Miami was walking away with it, but also because I had a SPLITTING headache from that.
Go to about 1:50 and you'll see what I mean.

I'm not for banning uniforms, but I do understand why some feel it's a distraction.

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.
The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.
See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

I'm in agreement with you, Derek. It's like the teams playing each other have no color coordination. If Miami chose to wear orange uniforms, then Florida should have went with blue pants. Sounds pretty simple to me.

Also, when I brought this up a few years ago, I think it was Donovan who raised a good point. Does that mean a team like Michigan State could never wear all-green uniforms? If they're playing on green turf, it would seem to have the same effect.

I would think it would, but not be as ugly on TV as a blue or red field. I do think that if there is an advantage, it is very small.Eric wrote:Also, when I brought this up a few years ago, I think it was Donovan who raised a good point. and it all gets resolved by doing what should have been done all along....grass....as in real grass....good days and muddy days....that's what I'm talking about.

Exactly. I hated it when Iowa removed their natural grass and went to the artificial turf. There can be certain parts of the country, where having the turf makes sense, but in general the natural grass is much better.
