Brian Jones take on 2011 season

I have never heard of Brian Jones before today. I guess he covers college football for CBS. He is now my favorite college football analyst. He picks Arkansas to play in the NC game this year.

Of course he picks Notre Dame to be their opponent. Not sure about that....however, ND has talent, a good coach, and a terribly weak schedule (not to mention they are often ranked higher than they should be).

And Rich Rod has picked Arkansas as his Cinderella team this season.

Sept 3rd can't get here soon enough!

I have never heard anyone pick Arkansas for the NC game. It may not happen (the odds are that it will not) however, Petrino has built a program that will be in the conversation in most seasons. I am a happy Hog fan!

Speaking of Arkansas, I need some college fantasy help: Is Ronnie Wingo basically going to go where Knile Davis left off? I picked up Wingo in anticipation of him being a big part of an explosive offense this year, so I'm hoping he can replicate some of what Davis did when he entered the starting job last year. I looked up his stats on ESPN and it looked like Arkansas dumped off a lot of passes to him out of the backfield and his career yards per rush is over 6.

He is listed as the #1 RB on the latest depth chart. I think that Dennis Johnson could steal some carries from him (he has been banged up in practices but will be ready to go week 1)...even so, look for Wingo to continue to catch lots of passes out of the backfield. The knock on Wingo so far has been that he starts dancing when he thinks contact is coming. Petrino has said that in Spring, Summer, and Fall practices that Wingo has been running with more power (being more physical)...if that is the case he could have a big year. All the coaches have said that since Davis went down that Wingo has given that little bit of extra to try and fill the void. I think you made a good pick up. There is a BIG freshman RB Kodi Walker that may get some carries (but if he does it will be short yardage type situations). You know Knile Davis was the only TB in college football last year that averaged over 6 yards a carry among backs with 200+ carries. I could see a similar situation with Wingo. We will find out soon if Wingo will be the main guy or if he splits carries with Dennis Johnson. DeAnthony Curtis could get some carries as well. He is a senior, had been working with the CB's, but moved back to RB after Knile Davis was injured.
