Mich St vs Wisky
Wow! What a finish. I thought for sure the game was headed to overtime.

I'll give credit where it's due:
Pretty close to a good call. I suppose it is debatable if Wilson stumbled or if Michigan State's defense just stepped up to the challenge (because they really did). With Ball running well on the ground though, the early pick, closing tipped pass, and the sack for a safety loom large in this defeat for Wisky.

Wiskys first road game of the season, and they have played a scheduled ranked near the bottom in the FBS (referring to SOS). They are good but they are no Bama or LSU.

Re: Mich St vs Wisky
Wisconsin had all of the momentum, Bielema gambled and called those two time outs.
The Badgers would have stood a pretty decent shot in overtime. That 3rd & 7 play was also poorly defended. The shovel pass took them off guard a bit, however, there were defenders in the area who didn't advance toward the ball, until after the receiver was a step ahead. A stop there, who knows. . .

Interesting fact: The refs missed a false start on that shovel pass that set up the hail mary. The left tackle (or maybe TE, I forgot) jumped a fraction of a second early. You never know how that effects the outcome of the game.

True; 3rd & 7 is more manageable than 3rd & 12 from your side of the field . . . especially with under a minute to play.

Somehow I think this is where instant replay takes the character out of the game. I suppose the ball did cross the plane. But two officials, on the spot both made the same call very quickly. I would have been perfectly fine with the officials ruling standing...that is part of the game...it is a game. This is where baseball gets it right.

Re: Mich St vs Wisky
If I was Wisky my big beef would have been with that Spartan fumble. The pile on led to the officials blowing the whistle, after about 6 or 8 seconds of clawing, which is the general MO. If you have a defender there with Game Hi-Q he is getting his Badgers off that pile. Avoiding that whistle takes at least 10 more seconds off the clock.
I seem to recall seeing this before...and can't recall who it was. The announcers didn't know why the defender was screaming and grabbing guys??? They figured it out when they were talking about the clock...I think it was Mushberger. And I want to think it was a Buckeye game. (Could have been from 25 years ago...before Tuna Canning Degree Plans.)

That's where golf has them all beaten. Golfers call their own penalties and the few times they err someone will straighten it out usually ending any controversy. Also, as Sam Snead used to say about baseball"We have to play our foul balls"!
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

I think Slammin' Sammy had it right. No running the clock out, no taking a knee, no substitutes and most important, no cheerleaders.

And yet, if they are going to have this rule, they should make the correct call upon reviews . . . they did accomplished at least that.

Re: Mich St vs Wisky
The Big 10 should rename their divisions Refs and Replays. Shameful that a great game like that ends on a questionable call. It should have been decided on the field by the players. Granted it was close that the ball broke the plain when he spun around but I don't think it was definitive enough to overturn the refs on the field.

Besides, if your coach cries after the game because he lost, you shouldn't go to the championship .

That I admit, I did not see . . .
I bounced over to the Oklahoma nose dive as soon as they confirmed MSU had won.

Re: Mich St vs Wisky
Soooo..... Michigan St. puts pressure on Wilson causes two INT's and a Intention Grounding/safety in the end zone and get's up to a blow out level lead. Then plays prevent? Then they let Russell Wilson sit in the pocket and take them apart? What kind of idiotic decision was that? Let's play not to lose and almost lose. Wilson had the deer in the headlights look so you turn off the headlights. GFG!! L2P!!! MSU just rushed their front four the last drive and Wilson looked scared to death in the pocket while not even getting pressured.
Everybody knows prevent only prevents you from winning. Let's play 40 minutes of aggressive football and then abandon everything that got us up big and play prevent. To coin a phrase, "How thick can you get?"
