Va - Miami

Postby WoVeU » Thu Oct 27, 2011 10:11 pm

There is nothing in all of sports that I hate with any more passion than that stupid "U" symbol! It just steams me! But a close 2nd might well be that stupid tie!

Well I never understood why it was a "U". Why not an "M"? There are plenty of schools that are a "University." :D

Because, in their minds, it's "THE U" and there is no other "U". I love MIami's promo spot that plays in games where school president Donna Shalala holds up the U incorrectly with her thumbs about 4 inches apart.

As for the ties at UVa, Colin Cowherd did a hilarious rant a few years back about UVa football -

“UVA is the softest bunch of creampuff, bowtie wearing, brie cheese eating, ascot wearing wussies I’ve ever seen in my life. There is not a softer bunch of cookie dough-eating weenies than the UVA football program. Those guys wear makeup to games. That is the biggest bunch of fru fru, daiquiri drinking, non-alcohol beer-chugging weenies I’ve ever seen in my life. Want to know the most popular drink at tailgating at UVA football? Zima! Under soft, they have a Cavalier football logo in the dictionary. They wear ties to games! That’s absurd!”

Bi-Polar UVA. Beat Ga Tech, lose to NC St., Beat Miami, next they'll lose to Maryland. The good news for FSU is on their current pattern VA will play like crap against them and lose. The bad news for Va Tech is they have them on the following week when they should be good again.

When Miami did the "U" logo in 1973, the designer came up with it as an alternative to the "M" or "UM" that several programs had.

The "U" was distinctive and has become iconic...it does what it a logo is supposed to do, immediately identify a product, better than most.

Haters gonna hate....I don't like Miami, but I have absolutely no problem with their logo. It is a piece of good marketing for Da U.

I always thought the "U" was supposed to be a crude picture of a hurricane... Shows how much I know, derp. IMO they should have kept the '50s Ibis smoking a pipe.

I only disliked them for being traitors to the Big East, but now Syracuse is the same so... meh. I suppose I can hate them because of Donna Shalala... but of course it was Syracuse responsible for giving her graduate degrees to her so... bleh.

I suppose my opinions of Miami are as scattered and bipolar as Virginia's play this season. Good game out of them last night though.

And as far as VT is concerned, Virginia should always be ready to play for the Commonwealth Cup. Doesn't matter which week it falls on.

Miami wears ties too! We had softies and thugs in ties last night.
