Coach Graveyard Thread
Mike Stoops, Houston Nutt, and Bob Toledo are definitely gone. Luke Fickell and Everett Withers are most likely out. It's also sounding like Dennis Erickson is going to get canned at Arizona State.
Rich Rodriguez is in Arizona. The rumors I've seen are saying Sumlin and Skip Holtz are talking to North Carolina and that Sumlin and Larry Fedora are premature candidates at Arizona State. Ole Miss apparently is interested in Mark Hudspeth from UL Lafayette.

Definitely. Winning at Texas Tech is no piece of cake and the guy took them to another level. He took them to 10 straight bowl games and Tuberville is ruining the team within two seasons.
I forgot to mention that Howard Schnellenberger is retiring at the end of this year and that Florida Atlantic also has an opening.

Not sure if USF could stand to lose Holtz. They are just settling into his system.
Has anyone heard whether Penn St is open in the job market? Or are they riding the Storm with what they have until all has calmed?
Something else we could mention here, is, the Coach Resurrection line.
Things looked bad for Charlie Strong early in the year. But he seems to have turned things around, and bought himself some time.
Mark Richt was another dead in the water coach. Then the Dawgs woke up, and he looks to be in good shape, for now.
Who else do you think may have saved their jobs after starting weak?

I know some folks think that Al Golden, Miami, might be a guy interested in the Penn State job...especially since Miami didn't tell him about the NCAA investigation as he was being hired.

Fickell isn't going to be the head coach, but I'm hoping he isn't gone. If so he was totally screwed by Ohio State this year.

Retaining Fickell would mean Ohio State has quit looking for scapegoats...so he will have to go.

I don't know if many blame Luke for this season. There are quite a few that don't have confidence in him as a head coach - I'm not in that group - but from the begining of this Wexner wanted Urban Meyer. I am hoping that Wexner finishes cleaning house in the administration and compliance. I am pretty sure Gene Smith is done sometime after Meyer is announced. He wasn't even part of the negotiation's with Meyer's agent so that is telling to me. I hope they go ahead an retire Dr. Gee too. Even though he is a good fundraiser his leadership on campus has been lacking. You know the stupid comments, but it goes way beyond that. There have been some safety issues on campus he has been late to respond to and while he has always been aloof he has grown more and more out of touch with the general population on campus.

I have read rumors that Gus Malzhan is being looked at by a few schools including Ole Miss, Memphis, and North Carolina. Last year Gus turned down a couple of jobs...one being Vanderbilt.

Anyone think Mack Brown is in trouble at Texas?

No. Maybe this season would set him up to be on the hot seat next year, but for all he's done for that program, I don't think an 8-4 year (should they beat Baylor) would be anything to get him in trouble.

Average 8-4 a season and you are going to be in the top 35 all time coaches. You are correct that Mack Brown will be in trouble if he doesn't go to 9+ wins next year. Fans don't know what a good coach is. Sometimes a 50-50 season is a great one. And, I am not talking about Purdue. Jury is still out on our guy.
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

Thoughts...
1...Poor Cincinatti. I read that Illinois is looking at Butch Jones. Michigan State took Mark Dantonio at the end of the 2006 season. Dantonio brought Cincy to respectability and recruited most of the players pivotal to the success of his replacement, Brian Kelly. Kelly left at the end of 2009. Jones, if he leaves, would be the third HC lost in five years.
2...Penn State folks are talking about Dan Mullins to PSU...I don't see it. But he can recruit Florida and the south if the Happy Valley crew thinks they need to recruit against Urban in Florida.
3...Larry Fedora from Southern Miss to Ole Miss? Can anyone win enough at Ole Miss to satisfy the boosters? Ole Miss is the top spot in Mississippi fopr a coach so maybe there are some legs to that rumor.
4...Chris Peterson at Boise. Can anyone woo him away? UCLA? UNC?
