Urban to OSU? The liar's update timeline

Urban Liar timeline

November 24, 2009, Urban Meyer said in regards to a question about the soon-to-be Notre Dame job vacancy, "I'm ready to dispel it. I'm going to be the coach at Florida as long as they'll have me. So I want to make that clear." I am sure Florida fans are jumping with glee. I mean it is not like Urban has even blatantly lied before. Right? Right? Well just ask a Bowling Green or Utah fan what they think about that (these are quotes from Urban starting from when he was at Bowling Green)......
"This is a long term process (building a football program). I always say there are only about eight or 10 really good football programs where year in and year out they win."

"We are nowhere near what we can do here. That's what's driving me right now. Everybody's worried about those other places; nothing's going on."

"I was contacted by one, but I'm not interested. I love it here. We have a lot of work to do. That's the bottom line."

"With recruits, that's been for two years, even before we won. [They say,] 'that guy's not going to be there very long'; that's silly ... The future is fantastic here ... I'm proud to be the football coach here. Once they get to know me, know my family, know how important it is to have continuity, my kids going to school somewhere."

"I think you all but guarantee that you are one of the top two, three teams in the league every year if you get that [new athletic facility] here. I feel so strong about the academics, about the community, the environment, about the people. It's the last piece; it's a significant piece."

"In the words of any Bowling Green football player today: 'I thought we were your family.' Bowling Green's players are understandably angry at Meyer for leaving. Every day he would preach team loyalty. Meyer carried his we-are-family concept to the extreme, even bunking in the same dorm with the Falcons during preseason workouts."

"First of all, I love it here. But I'm second fiddle. My family is No. 1, and they love it here. Meyer plans to turn his telephone off over the holiday break while he spends lost time with his family. He isn't expecting a lot of calls, anyhow. Word is out that he loves Utah, Meyer explained, and schools are funny about that. Meyer has never been my choice at Ohio State. I don't think he is a great recruiter. I do think he is a good coach.

Here is the time line that I was told that started this into motion. In December Wexner had someone contact Meyers agent (this is how they say no one offered Meyer anything and Meyer never told Ohio State anything) Meyer was told the Ohio State job would be open. Meyer quit his job at Florida. Once Tressel was forced to retire (fired) in June, Meyer was offered the job (again through his agent) and he accepted assuming a contract could be worked out. Everything between then and now has just been a matter of negotiating the details. Meyer's position got stronger toward the end of the season where the Penn State job and the Arizona job opening up. That is when the rumblings of Meyer to Ohio State got leaked to the public. I don't know for sure if any of this is true, but I was told all of this in July or August (sometime before the season started) by my brother-in-law who plays golf with a lawyer (college buddy) who he said was involved in negotiations. Everything I was told would happened did happen so I tend to believe his source was good.

If this is true, then Ohio State knew at least something was going on with Tressel in December. Which I have always suspected considering that Tressel has never seemed to be a guy how got caught with his pants down. I have always believed he told Gene Smith and Gene Smith sold him down the river to save his butt.

I have also been told that as soon as the NCAA decision comes out that Gene Smith, Doug Archie from compliance, and a few others who dropped the ball in this matter are going to be sent packing, completing the house cleaning that Wexner felt needed to be done. We will see if that happens as well.

Urban is taking Mark Pantoni with him.

And Pantoni may be the bigger impact. Mark will be Director of Football Operations at OSU and will coordinate all recruiting efforts from OSU's standpoint.

He will organize a Friday Night Lights type of program at Ohio State and will be the main administrative interface between OSU and high school coaches.

Also, he will organize, coordinate and administer all the camps for Ohio State.

I've watched Florida's recruiting...this guy has been good. The Friday Night Lights Camp is very successful in Florida....OSU is getting a great behind the scenes guy.

Ohio State has big looming. The pundits and apologists for Ohio State, aka, Herbstreit, who I like, act like some terrible shadow is lurking over OSU as if they were not responsible for any of it and Meyer will now come in and save the school from the unjust axe that is about ready to fall. The NCAA, like all, scavengers in to and including the Wolverine, will be relentless in their self righteous indignation. Meyer will not be the savior no matter how much Gee and Smith want to portray Tessel as the antichrist.

I think the fact that Meyer excepted the job means that the NCAA is going to except Ohio State's self punishment without much more coming. Smith, I believe is done at Ohio State. I'm not sure about Gee, although he should be. I know when this got up to the board of trustees they didn't like being embarassed like they were. Most here were proud that Ohio State football had never had a major violation. Andy Geiger, no matter what people here say, was good for Ohio State. Gene Smith has been a nightmare. He has let things happen that shouldn't have and instead of stopping it in it's track he turned his head. That wasn't how things worked here before, no matter what the perception is now. Geiger, when he was told by Jim O'Brien about the basketball violation, fired him on the spot. He didn't wait to see if it was going to go public, he didn't profess his support for the guy. He fired him, called the NCAA, and let the chips fall where they may. I guess that is what we get for hiring a guy from Notre Dame.

I understand why Ohio State would make an investment in Meyer, but I would be a little gunshy about his health. But, if he quit at Florida (twice!) due to his stress levels impacting his health, why would he think this won't re-occur at Ohio State? If anything, there might be more pressure. They were calling for Tressell's head before the tattoo incident because Ohio State hadn't won enough national championships.

That is a concern. The biggest thing I don't like about Urban Meyer is his offense. I would rather see a Bill Walsh offense. I guess after this year, though, we will take any offense that doesn't run off tackle 92.5% of the season. He should know about the pressure aat Ohio State. He has been here before and he and Earle are very close and he knows very well what happened to Earle.

Just how many times and how many different people from Ohio State and the media can through Tressel under the bus that has already run him over more times than this years offense ran off tackle plays?

It is just like Woody. They will one day come to see him for what he really was one day - both good and bad.

All I know is that the Big 10+2 just got a lot more fun to watch and the little bit of Buckeye in me is excited. The little Wolverine in me isn't.

I bet Gator fans are FUMING. Good. 8)

I personally had nothing against Ohio State, and was indifferent to them.

Sorry, but now I have a reason to not like them.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.
