Today I became a taker...not a contributor

Postby billybud » Thu Dec 01, 2011 2:32 pm

My first day of eligibility for Medicare....

I am maintaining my former insurance so I don't know how that interacts with Medicare...maybe I'll get a smaller premium if the government shares in my medical costs.

A kind of trauma..turning 65...official geezerhood recognition, senior discounts....funny, I don't feel older. I left this morning to ride with some friends for breakfast about 40 miles away in Thomasvlle, Ga...just got back. I do not feel old yet, I guess that will come on by tonight.

I just signed up for medicare a year ago, and added a Blue Cross Blue Shield supplement. Had a heart stent and an overnight in the hospital a month or so ago. Anxiously awaiting to see what, if any, costs I will have.

Good luck. My mom has a pacemaker. She had a heart attack to need it, I had one when I looked at her bill.

The bill and what is not settled on by the hospital and doctors are two different things. I think because the hospitals and doctors realize that much has to be written off, the charges are way out of line. I haven't seen anything yet.

How much of her bill will she pay, out of her pocket?

It works out to about twenty percent of the adjusted cost. She had another health insurance besides just medicare so some of the hospital stay was covered 100%. She is totally dependent on her pacemaker so she has to go every couple months to check how it is working.

Thomasville?? LOL. You were right down the road from me. A friend and I sometimes fly in there for fuel when heading over to Pell City to have lunch. It's cheaper than Peachtree City.

300 miles is right down the road from you? I guess if you are in a Cessna.

Are we talking about gettin old and Elmer's disease? Can't remember what that is!
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

ehh...Pell City is only about 100+ miles....45 minute flight.

Thomasville is about a 30 minute drive from the house.

Happy Birthday young geezer!

40 was enough to have me appreciate waking up every morning. (A few 40 year olds have died of late.) They say your only as old as you feel...which creates that gray line of activity. Don't do enough and you will slowly feel older, do enough and you will definitely feel older. If you cram 5 guys in a sorry rice-burner SUV and head out from Selma at noon to play a 7PM basketball game in Houston. Then head to the bar at 10 and shut it down to the tune of an a $1100 bar tab. Then carry the upchuckers and pass-outers back to the hotel, go out to eat and in bed by 4:15, up at 7:15 and then cram 6 guys into the crappy SUV and head back without stop......you feel older than you would like too!
Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves.
If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Really? I thought you were from central Georgia. Pell City, the one I was thinking of, is east of Birmingham and west of Anniston...328 miles from my door...Thomasville is 35 minutes from my door.

If you are a 30 minute drive from Thomasville, you are in circle bound by Valdosta to the east, moving in a counterclockwise circle through Tifton, and Albany....
