Howdy Results Week 14
In a week where most of the games had the all players picking the same side of the game, WVU and Grayhost finished on top with an 18-2 mark. The group picked just over 80% correctly and there was only the Va Tech vs Clemson game that everyone missed.

With very little separation this week the YTD did not change much, but this was definitely a week to have missed picking.

4/100 separate 8 guys this year. That is a pretty tight race. Only picking at a little better than 60%, though, isn't very good.

"Experts" like Phil Steele pick around 60% on these same games we pick each week. Their percentages are higher because they also pick Michigan vs Middle Tenn St. On the evenly matched games like Eric selects and I have to pick in my pool those guys don't do any better.
How does the CFP computer do on these games we pick is it much better than 60%? I'm too lazy to go back and chart the picks but I imagine it wouldn't be much better.

Picking who you want to win is more fun...but does not lead to great picking success.

Exactly correct. This week we were 80%, but that was due to the composition of the games. Most of the weeks, almost all of the games would have a very small point differential than the actual point spread.strawman wrote:"Experts" like Phil Steele pick around 60% on these same games we pick each week. I don't know. I don't know if it has ever been looked at. I do know that Mountainman picked 80% one year. I think Donovan was close to 80 one years. I tend to stay in the 60's. My "system" is to always pick the favorite on games I'm not sure about and then pick who I think will win on the games I am more sure about. I never fall apart, but I have only won this game once - I think it was the second year on the old board.

I think everybody took Montana State, but the game came down to a missed extra point with 5 seconds remaining which would have had New Hampshire tie the game

I'm actually close to kicking myself . . . when I was initially choosing the teams, I picked Clemson & So Miss; then I thought, Nah! Virginia Tech is on fire at the end here, and Southern Miss just lost to UAB.
Hence, I changed my picks to Va Tech & Houston right before I clicked the Submit link . . .

In previous years we crowned the person with the most wins which would have been Cane and Fanatic so I'm going to give them the AP title. The AP poll to me means Also Played because they don't count. In a year where precedents were ignored I guess they don't really matter here either.
Another year down and a lot of stuff got broke this year. Records, precedents, the perception that there is no line between the creme de la creme of the SEC and the little sisters of the poor rest of the nation, the theory that the Heisman should go to the player who impacted the nation the most, and the idea that the hype filled media would actually not listen and believe their own hype.
