Once again we punish those that had nothing to do with the "crime."

The program did the crime and they get punished....it is kind of like being along unarmed on an armed robbery when one of your crew kills a cashier...you go down for murder as well.

And when the characters involved are no longer there. If they did not break a law, there really is not much the NCAA can do, other than impose the penalty on the program. I really don't think the penalty is that harsh, and most feel that way, other than the President of Ohio St and probably many of the fans.

Gene Smith and Gee still have their jobs. That is what Ohio State needs to fix. Gene Smith had a chance to punish the ones who broke the rules by self imposing a bowl ban this year, but his arrogance would not allow it. Ohio State said they won't appeal. They really don't have a leg to stand on if they do. They did what they were accused of doing.
I still think Emmert is a communist , after the Russian model, but we like socialists and communists in this country these days. The NCAA and the schools need to quit playing hide and go seek with each other. They need to set rules and follow them. It is all one big joke today as are the people who run the institutions.

Now, let's get to the other 100+ programs also!
The preceding statements are solely the opinion of GoBoilers and are, therefore, probably not based whatsoever on fact, research or more time in thought than what was required to physically type them. They're probably correct anyway, so you shouldn't argue too much, because otherwise he'll just blather on forever. On the internet Al Gore invented.

Sorry...other programs have to get in line behind Miami...they have taken up all investigative resources.

Re: Ohio St receives bowl ban and other penalties..
The NCAA needs to reform the way they do their work. The big problem is that everyone is breaking the rules....to different extent. The NCAA knows it, the schools know it, the board of trustees at the schools know it. They never look around the corner because even if they know it they don't want to see it. They all play this high dollar game of hide and seek to keep their hands clean and appear to do their job. The NCAA does it's jobs based on the extent that some cheating is being uncovered by someone, usually the media. Otherwise they are all happy to not look at the dirt in the corner and declare all houses clean. I believe it is time to put together real common sense rules to govern the sports programs and also to enforse those rules. The punishments should be consistent and handed out evenly no matter if you are Ohio State or SMU, USC or Utah State. College football makes money, but all sports do not. College sports aren't supposed to be like pro sports. It is at it's core a scholarship program. It should be treated as such.

Re: Ohio St receives bowl ban and other penalties..
Yeah, it shouldn't really be this difficult. The only reason every school is guilty to varying degrees is because they know they can bend the rules, as long as they don't get caught (and it's easy not to get caught because the NCAA doesn't really care).

How about this??? Is this even any of the NCAA's bid-ness?
Mark Richt was giving assistants money out of his pocket to cover raises they failed to get due to freezes etc.....and the NCAA says that's wrong. i don't understand that.
Question: When will the NCAA regulate Christmas for schools??

They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.
The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.
See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

It isn't any of their business. Except they make a rule that makes it their business. This only illustrates how completely out of control some of these rules can be.

But sometimes things are so out of control, nipping is not enough...well on several subjects.
And..remember..Barney had one bullet he carried in his pocket.

The big problem I see is that the NCAA is full of Barneys and most of the school presidents can pass for Otis, but we have no one taking Andy's role. We need one Andy for every Barney.
