Poor shooting and an injured point guard doomed the Prairie View A&M Panthers from the start as the Texas Southern Tigers won in a rout 84-49. The Panthers did have a 4-2 lead with 16:56 remaining in the first half but the Tigers took over from there. The Panthers made 7 of their 26 shot attempts in the first half (26.9%) as Texas Southern grabbed a 34-19 halftime lead. For the game, Texas Southern shot 51.9% from the floor and 46.7% (7-15) from 3-point range. The Panthers struggled to show any offensive rhythm as starting point guard Ronald Wright tried to play with a bad shoulder but only took one shot in the game in his 16 minutes of action. Wright did have 2 assists and no turnovers for a team that turned the ball over 20 times while only have 11 assists.
Prairie View A&M (5-11, 1-2) were led by Ryan Gesiakowski's 14 points and 3-made shots beyond the arc. Louis Monks came off the bench to score 13 points for the Panthers. Five players for the Tigers finished in double figures as Texas Southern received strong support from the bench. Reserve Madarious Gibbs had 13 points and 3 assists while senior DaQuan Joyner came off the the bench to record 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 3 steals. Texas Southern is now 3-0 in conference play and 4-11 overall for the season.
