Picture of Arkansas coaches before the ULM game. No wonder Arkansas lost the game.

Players are saying that fall practices were spent preparing for Alabama. So they spent almost no time on ULM. Right after the game players were saying that what ULM showed was not what they prepared for (ULM did have a bye week 1). Still no excuse. But again this is a coaching error. Coaches not making the right adjustments, crazy injuries, no leadership when Tyler left the game, a offensive coordinator calling deep passes with a RS freshman in his first meaningful game experience and up by 21 points, etc, etc, etc. Still in complete shock this could happen.

Got to be a season dampner. The only redemption now seems to be to win the west.

Arkansas won't go 1-11. They will just not live up to their talent level with this coach. The fact that he spent the whole off season working on Alabama tells you he is looking for that one signiture win that will cause Arkansas to give him a contact - - - instead of a body of work that shows he is deserving. That tells you who John L. Smith is right there.

John L Smith will not be back next year. That loss Sat. sealed his fate. Even if Ark were to win out. I just watched his press conference. That was hard to do.

Yeah, he can sound like he is speaking from a different kind of institution.

Here was a quote from John L in reference to the 2nd half of ULM game: "Who has two thumbs, a preseason potential heisman running back, a freshman QB and continues passing the ball with a 21pt lead, this guy."

Little too late their bud. Every hog fan in America was screaming it at their tv's Sat. Also Dennis Johnson was averaging 7.1 yards a carry...he only touched the ball twice in 2nd half.

Looks like a comedy of errors alright. Now, for you who haven't figured it out yet in Arkansas - Paul Petrino is NOT a good play caller. He has ridden on Bobby's coat tails and followed him around. At Louisville, they might have discussed things ahead of a game; but, Bobby called the plays from the sideline - period. Didn't Paul go somewhere for a year until they got rid of him and good ol'brother Bobby rehired him at Arkansas? Bobby should have hired two more blonde squeezes instead of one.

Looks like John L. gave up early; but, leaving it in the hands of Paul Petrino would be like letting me call the plays. A sure disaster either way.

Injuries are tough though and it's too bad Arkansas had so many. The game could have been different. But, I fear a tone has been set which may cause more losses that should not have been.

Now that John L. screwed over Weber State I doubt they'd want him either. Maybe he and Bobby can start a temp service together.

Say, just a thought, maybe you Arkansas guys can try for Charlie Strong and get a 3rd straight ex-UL coach. :D

Swamp you joke about Charlie Strong but he will be one of the targets Arkansas goes after. I would not be surprised if he is the next Arkansas coach. He is from Arkansas, has ties to the SEC, and has turned Louisville around after Kragthorpe ran the program into the ground. Lots of Arkansas fans would love to have Charlie Strong back in his home state. There are many threads on the Ark message boards about Strong.

Bobby called the plays when Paul was at Arkansas before. Paul went to Illinois for 2 years. Paul's first year in Illinois calling the plays his offense set almost every school record. They put up huge numbers: yards, TD's, etc. Last year not so much. Yes Bobby then brought it back to Arkansas when Garrick MaGee took the UAB head coaching job. Make no mistake if Bobby was still at Ark he would be calling the plays. Paul called a good first half against ULM but in the 2nd half when the going got tough he looked lost. All he could do is call pass, pass, pass, punt...and then proceed to yell and drop the f bomb at a freshman QB that was doing the best that he could. Paul looked like a crazy man on the sideline in the second half.

Hitler reacts to the Ark vs ULM game. I am sure you guys have seen this movie scene before. It has been used for 100's of things. Since they are speaking German you can add subtitles in and it is quite funny.

My favorite part is "there is a promising 2* recruit in New Mexico".

I can do nothing but laugh about the situation now.

Ok, I blame Pepsi now. Arkansas switched from coca-cola to pepsi this season.

The last time ULM beat an SEC team was when they beat Alabama. That same year was when Alabama switched to Pepsi. Coincidence or what?

1981 #1 Texas comes to Fayetteville and faces an unranked Arkansas team lead by Lou Holtz. The Razorbacks had lost to an unranked team the week before. The final score is Arkansas 44 and Texas 11. Would love to see something like that again. However, John L is no Lou Holtz.

I would like to say I remember this game but I was only 5 in 1981.

Doss, you guys can do it. John L has issues as a coach...I believe that. His field presence is weird, in my opinion. He makes funny choices. I am not one that believes Weber State is mad because he left them...that is the nature of college coaching now. What I do believe he is a good moral man, that went into a program that had those kind of issues and somehow at his helm they have seemingly gone away, at least he is not in there causing problems.

I think players recognize that. Most players are good kids, with great values, they know when the coaches are shady and sleazy, that is not hidden from them. Anyway, I wish Arkansas good fortune, I would like to see them win.

John L is not your coach of the future, never was anyone's intent, I don't think. Kind of reminds me of Willingham when he went to University of Washington. You have to have wins, but you have to give some credit for stepping into a stink hole and quickly make that forgotten. But that is just my thoughts from afar, very afar.

Doss, thank you for that post, now I feel as though you gave me access to remind you how inferior your program is to Texas...

All is right in the world once again... Arkansas is unranked and posting about one of the very few times they actually beat Texas. There's been a drought the last several months, and the Razorback tears will be plentiful enough this season to fill the ponds once again. It is fitting that Arkansas ran away from Texas to join the SEC, as they will now finally have a rival in A&M that will actually consider them a rival as well. Each year, A&M and Arkansas will be able to duke it out to see who finishes 3rd in the division. Then after the game the Hog fan and A&M fan will find peace with each other... the Hogs will brag about the 21 times they beat Texas...blocking out the 56 times they lost. Aggie will brag about the 37 times they beat Texas...blocking out the 76 times they lost.
