Ark Coaching Search

Postby Dossenator » Tue Nov 27, 2012 11:12 pm

ESPN reporting Ark has offered Les Miles a 5 year 27 million dollar deal to be their head coach.

You have got to be kidding me. Fire Jeff Long for even making that offer. Just sickens me.

I heard that tonight. What do you think the chances of Les jumping to Arkansas from LSU? I haven't heard he was unhappy. Are the LSU faithful unhappy with him?

Before last season LSU fans were unhappy. Not sure about now. I don't want Baton Rouges garbage anywhere near Fayetteville. I doubt he comes even though it would double his salary. I bet he gets a nice raise from LSU to stay and they can keep him.

I'm not a Les Miles fan either. He is an Akron guy who turned coat to Michigan.

I think Gary Patterson, Mike Gunsy, or James Franklin will be the next coach. I would be happy with any of them.

I bet Les Miles is pretty happy about this. I expect LSU to offer an extension or an increase in salary

Lot of good coaching jobs are out there right now. Arkansas has had over a year to find someone. Maybe Briles from Baylor would make the move, not much more can be done in Waco....however, and I say this respectively, not sure the Arkansas job is that attractive, they do not have much of a track record on how they have treated their coaches over the past few years. And the opposite is true, the Coaches have not treated Arkansas that well...but...maybe the AD should be looked at first.

I think the key for Arkansas would be to hire a new AD. He put all his eggs in one basket and that basket wrecked his motorcycle. Then he hired John L. as an interim, which turned out badly. Between John L's personal problems and the team chemistry problems coupled with the lack of support from the AD that hired him, John L has been a total disaster. I don't understand why the AD was allowed to keep his job.

Jeff Long made a huge mistake hiring John L Smith. However, one reason was so he would not have to fire Petrino's staff April with no other jobs open. He gave the assistants a bonus if they would stick around. Three of them had just moved their families to NW Ark in April and he did not want to throw them to the curb with no job. He is actually one of the more respected AD's in the country for the way he treats his coaches...whether that is warranted or not. Ark just gave him a big raise and extension. He is praised by the national sports media on how he handled the Petrino firing. Schools have been trying to steal him away...Stanford offered him their AD position earlier this year.

Reports today say that he did not offer Miles job. He spoke to him about position but no offer was made. They have been friends since they were both at Michigan.

I would prefer not to have Briles...but Ark could do worse.

I think his hiring of John L should be enough of getting him fired. If I knew how bad John L was he should have also. A better move would have been not hand the interim job to one of the asst. coaches. Anyone of them would have been better than Smith.

He's already the second highest paid coach in the SEC. 8)
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

It appears you have some crystal ball or something.

If I did, I would be higher in the pick'em standings

Another reason why Jeff Long was just given a huge raise and 7 year deal to remain the Ark AD: "The University of Arkansas is ranked 11th in the nation in the initial 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors Cup standings released Thursday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of America (NACDA). The Directors Cup is a competition that tracks the nation's most successful intercollegiate athletic programs for their athletic performances throughout the year." This also ranks Arkansas #1 among all SEC schools. http://www.arkansasrazorbacks.com for full story

And Miles was not offered by Arkansas. Yes, Long spoke with him to judge his interest but no offer was ever made. Miles and his agent used this to get a raise. Long has said he will not offer a coach that has a regular season game left to coach...he has said that on several occasions over the past 7 months. So, most of his targets are coaching this Sat. Long also said on Sunday that he would have a coach in place in 10-14 days. So that would mean next week sometime.
