Final week Ponderings

Postby donovan » Sun Dec 02, 2012 11:26 am

Hmm…Where does one start….well always start at the beginning…

Boise v Nevada: Boise is an excellent middle of the road team. They are what they are. They should not try to be or apologize for anything they have done or be envious of those that seek National acclamations, albeit they are just fig newtons of the mind. Nevada, if they had played both halves like they did the second half, would have won. Chris Ault of Nevada is a stable coach that produces good teams year in and year out. These two teams should be in the same conference and be content they are. The game was in doubt the last 5 minutes, but not until then. So…the Las Wages bowl seems appropriate for the Broncos…..

Notre Dame v. Not the 2nd Best Team in the Country: ND gets all this flack for doing years ahead of what everyone is trying to do know…make big bucks off of the slave labor of college athletes. How hypocritical is it , to be on a team because they looked out for their own best interest, bought up networks, have a fan base the is exceeded by none. That is exactly what everyone else is trying to do. As for this year, they have an unblemished record and a QB that could be a real deal for three more years. They seem to have found a coach that works the ND system. And no, I don’t like Notre Dame, don’t dislike them…but, like everyone else, I liked “Rudy,” so you have to cut them a little slack….as well as all the other myriad of stories based around the Irish. Plus you hard core right wing zealots…our hero Ronald Regan…need I say more!

Alabama v Georgia: So disappointed. I thought Derek could do it. I thought he would have taken better control of the last four or five minutes. This game was great to watch. Who doesn’t like those defenses? So, in, the aftermath, Alabama is not the second best team in the country. They will play ND because that was more predestined than Mr. Billybud and I getting up 6 times a night to go to the bathroom, and about as interesting. Better teams….oh…Kansas State, Oregon and maybe Florida. I would pick Georgia in a rematch, but when the rubber met the road….

Ohio State v. ??? I keep forgetting, we punish the innocent while the guilty get hired by ESPN etc.

Baylor v Oklahoma: Baylor is the spoiler of the year. Briles will be leaving WACO, probably for the SEC…I am guessing…hmm Auburn. Tennessee never really gets quite there and Arkansas’s AD may be more than he wants to take on. I suspect Auburn will have the money and the backing….OK Briles to Auburn.

Oregon State v Nicholls High School: I watched this game. The winner was Nicholls St. They came played and went home with more money than they had made all season. The other winner, Oregon State….with a 77-3 score Riley played two water boys, one hot dog vendor and some woman that was carrying an Obama for President Sign…..she was penalized, immediately for excessive celebrating but on further review she was given a Presidential Citation.

Cincinnati v Connecticut: UConn three or four times was ready to be there, but silly, and justified, penalties just kept them out of it. I think Cincinnati has been a fun team to watch, their players have the desire to win.

Kansas State v Texas: Kansas State is the number two team in the country. They just aren’t located in the South. What more can be said.

The PAC 47: Who has a clue what is going on there. And frankly who cares. Stanford v Wisconsin….they is going to take a big…as in humongous advertising budget to catch up with Andy of Maybury reruns…..of course Andy was from the South so there is a leg up right there.

Florida State v.Georgia Tech I like this guy Manuel. Was a good game. I thought FSU’s defense, as usual was the key…a big successful effort in the waning moments of the game. Congrats to the ‘Noles….the ACC will miss you….so I predict.

Nebraska v Wisconsin: hmmm see most anybody’s comments. Can you get rummy living around all that high fructose corn syrup, ethanol producing corn…or are the women just so ugly you have no incentive….I don’t get Nebraska….but I have been to Omaha and North Platte…so now that I think about it.

Hawaii v South Alabama: ….Probably the most satisfying win of the day. Couple of reasons. Hawaii is a better ball team than their record and Norm Chow needs to win and have time to put the team on the map. He is a great fit. And Warrior Fan needs not to suck hind…I am not sure of the rest of that saying…all year!

Louisville v Rutgers: Classic matchup, good game and two good schools. These are the types of teams that should be in the same conference and be just who they are.

Northern Illinois v Kent State…Dang..the BCS needs to continue to be exposed for what they are not.

Stanford v. UCLA…Sure not too many here care. Pretty sure those on the West Coast don’t. It is the same old thing. You buy a raffle ticket, pay the price, just no one said your ticket won’t be in the bowl for the drawing.

From my standpoint, conference realignment has taken a lot of the stuffing out of College Football. I am not for throwing away traditions, some which started before the turn of the 20th Century. Can money make us cast aside our values and traditions? Now there is an already answered question.

I'm with you Donovan. I don't like re-alignment and I don't like trashing the traditions. I especially do not like playoffs.

You crack me up Donovan.

Well said Sir!! I tried...but came up short. :(

I yelled as loud as I could, but they would not spike the ball. Richt says that they had a call but the ball was touched. In the end, we look for people to point the finger at, but it's sometimes just not in the cards....and you have to live with that. VERY emotional night.

Nice picture of The Gipper.
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.
