Yeah, I was there. I spent 3 quarters shaking my head wondering how bad it could get. There was a point when I quit wanting us to get the ball back on offense and just hoped the defense would win it. Then the 4th quarter came and a turnover indeed sparked a 10-point flurry that lasted all of about 2 minutes. After that, crappy football again and we managed to eke-out an overtime win.
Now, the interesting part of this day is that it's actually the most fun we ever had at a football game BEFORE it began - great tailgate party as a group of 10 went and the folks for VT and Rutgers all around us were cool to hang out with. We had Cornhole, the group next to us had Beer Pong, another group had the disc game and yet another had a KanJam Frisbee set-up - all within 50 yards of each other.
Better still, sat on the 40-yard line in mid-level seats for $20 a ticket and parked about 200 yards from our gate since we arrived for a 5:30 kickoff at 1. Gotta thank the wife for some great on-line shopping and tailgate prepping for this one. (Given those prices, I thought it was an indication that NO Tech fans were coming but we probably had about 65% of the 45,000 in attendance).
The pregame festivities were excellent with paratroopers and a harmony group performing a rousing a cappella national anthem. Finally, the 4th quarter downpour, a totally unexpected comeback, and an overtime win all added new dimensions.
Oh, yeah, and the man that fell down the stairs and busted his chin and nose to smithereens gave us another story to tell. Major blood puddle even after the clean-up attempt and the heavy rain. Poor guy.
I came up with my own joke during the game -
A man asks a 5-year old VT fan what Santa brought him for Christmas.
"Give it up", the boy answered in a pissed-off manner. "There's no Santa Claus."
The man asked, "why do you say that, little fella?"
"Because", the boy replied. "I asked for a quarterback for Virginia Tech and anyone can see I didn't get one."

The cool thing about events like that are as long as you are with people you want to be with, it is usually a good time. Sometimes we take it all too seriously and it takes away from the whole point of sports - to have fun.

Stinespring needs to do something else on this staff other than being the offensive coordinator. I know VT likes him as a recruiter, but his coaching of the offense has just been abysmal. I think Frank Beamer must be loyal to a fault because his track record is so bad.
