The Mountain West Conference will, for football only, be divided into two divisions. Boise State University will play in the Mountain Division, and will be joined by Air Force, Colorado State, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah State. The West Division will be comprised of Fresno State, Hawai'i, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and UNLV. I really like the West Division is still affiliated. What I think these divisions leave opening for some additional schools, namely BYU and those schools seduced into the Pac 32 where they do not belong, screwing up the PAC 10.....frankly I would like Utah, Colorado and the Arizona schools to join, make the MWC better and also the PAC 8.

Each team will play every team in their division and the three cross-division games will rotate based on a computer scheduling model. The championship game for the conference will be held at the home stadium of the highest-ranked BCS team.

I certainly hope that of the two division winners, one is ranked higher than a team that may have lost just one conference game where the division champions may have lost a bunch of preseason and not be BCS ranked...but surely I am not the only one that thought of this. Anyway...is a pretty good geographical conference with the strength of who the Mountain West teams are....nothing more nor less. They will be shut out of the BCS summarily for the same reasons they have always been. I like it better than the Big East, which now is neither.

The West looks more competitive for the time being. Boise State should be winning the Mountain division for at least the next two or three seasons. But college football is very volatile, so the pendulum of division strength can swing the other way in a couple seasons.

I think if the MWC plays good football, it will continue to get respect. I believe it will be viewed as being the best conference not to have an auto bid to one of the "big" bowl games. So if you're talking 12-0 C-USA versus 11-1 MWC champion and deciding who gets that bid to the "Group of Five" auto slot, the MWC champ will probably have more currency with the pollsters.
