Time for Billybud & Donovan to Meet in Person . . .

Postby Cane from the Bend » Tue Mar 05, 2013 2:06 pm

Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida State and Boise State will play a home-and-home football series set for 2019 and 2020 the schools announced on Monday. This will be the first-ever meetings between the football programs and the games are scheduled to be played September 7, 2019 in Tallahassee and September 12, 2020 in Boise, Idaho.

"We are very excited to add Boise State to our future football schedule," said Florida State Director of Athletics Randy Spetman. "Boise State has an excellent football program and we feel this will be an out of conference game that will be exciting for fans of both schools and appealing to TV networks.

"Adding the Broncos to our football schedule continues our commitment to bringing top quality opponents to Doak Campbell Stadium. With our neutral site game versus Oklahoma State in 2014, the addition of Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC and now this series, we feel we are putting our football program in the best possible position to compete in the new BCS beginning in 2014."

Boise State has been one of the most successful BCS football programs over the last 11 seasons. The Broncos have finished in the top-20 of the Associated Press poll nine times during that span and won nine conference titles since 2002. Over that nine-year period the Broncos have produced a record of 129-15 (.896), appeared in 11 consecutive bowl games and won seven of those postseason contests.

Current Boise State head coach Chris Petersen is 84-8 since taking over the Boise State program in 2006.

I remember when I couldn't imagine 2020 ever getting here.

I still think "1990s = 10 years ago." It's actually 20 at this point

Yipes....2019-20.

Yep...if both Donovan and I are kicking...we should try to do it.

Just got back from two weeks in Texas (paying my marriage tax). Rented a rock cabin on a ranch near Wimberley (cows and deer in the pasture around the house), did the family thing and then rode hill country with Ms. L. for four days.

Sat on a bench in the tiny old general store in Luckinback, knocking back a beer and listening to local guys jam on their guitars. Ate Jagerschnitzel in Fredericksburg...rode the three sisters out near Leakey...Loved the migas for breakfast at the Wimberley Cafe. Rode over hell's half acre between San Antonio, Comfort, Seguin, Marble Falls, Blanco, Fredericksburg and Leakey....

But..it sure was good to get back home.....Dorothy was certainly on to something there.

Well, as the one person whose met Donovan, I can tell you that you would enjoy it. 8)
They’re either going to run the ball here or their going to pass it.

The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.

See, well ya see, the thing is, he should have caught that ball. But the ball is bigger than his hands.

You're too kind.

You need to get back up here so I can spring this time, though your act will be hard to follow. Had a fun time.
We can head to the coast and eat dungeness crab right from the dock.

I do look forward to seeing Mr. Billybud...sometimes I think we are twins separated at birth by a wicked stepmother. She always liked him best.

OK Spence..organize a message board get together and we how many of us could meet somewhere....2019 is a long time off.

I think Mr Congrove has been thinking about something like that. I'm not the best guy to organize anything. I'm leaving on a work trip this weekend and I have to get my ducks in a row at work, pick up a stray cat from the vet that my kids insisted we have fixed, and take my youngest daughter to a skating party tomorrow night. If I don't break my leg skating, I have to come home and pack to catch a plane Saturday morning. Does that kind of planning sound like someone you would want to organize anything ? Seriously, though, there are enough guys who live near Florida that it would probably only be tough for a few of us to make it to something like that.

And of course it all becomes clear. The Mountain West who has a TV deal with CBS, agreed when Boise State came back they could control their own TV deals. (Good for the conference as they still share). So ESPN picked up Boise state with a $300,000 guarantee for the weekday games and $5000,000 for the Saturday Games. They have to televise at least 7 games per year on one of their major channels. So now it is not surprising that Boise got on the schedule of some "better" teams. Give them money and TV exposure and "they will come." If money is good, then this is good for everyone. (Of course money is not good when it becomes the ruler...but I think we have had this discussion.)

Anyway, sometime in the next 7 or 8 years, you will see Mr. Billybud and Me, in the stands cheering, rooting, whooping and hollering...(We only go when there is a possibility of National TV exposure)

PS...Lot of ball left but Florida State is killing them, again this year in baseball.

I might be bringing my dad back out to play golf again at Coeur d'alene during the summer. I'll keep you informed.

Careful not to make this meeting @ donovan's house . . . by the time 2019 rolls through, he'll be setting one of these up in place of his comfy chair to watch the games on:
